I am looking to buy my first setup, I've seen many brand new cheap "Best Waroo" kites and was wondering if there any good. Like anything anything these days the cheapest maybe not be any good. Any other good brands relatively cheap also any hints with buying second hand gear things to look for.
Any info is helpfull thank you very much
bit dated imo, however the are some crazy cheap kahoona deals around from 2012, not a bad kite from starter to intermediate, loads of good deals around , with your weight and wind strengths youll need a couple of kites
Can you tell us what size / year your looking at ?
Yeah thanks im looking for maybe a 12m kite. Ive seen some cheap kites from 2009 or 2010 "supposedly" in good to excellent condition.
12m kite at 55kg? You will need to cut the kite in half!
Obviously im not going to head out in 30kn winds with a 12m kite.
What size kite do you recommend? When i was in bali i used a 18m kite in about 12 - 15kn winds.
thanks
Hey Kyle
Heres a handy link to the 'used buying questions' you need to ask or look at
www.seabreeze.com.au/Articles/Kitesurfing/About-Buying-Second-Hand-kites_3539609.aspx
The considerations you should be first looking at, is the wind average wind strength of where you live.. dont be afraid to post that - as you will get the locals input or even someone to buddy up with you.
At 55kg you make us all 'fat bastards'
but youll learn to drink beer n get the munchies lol.
An 18m kite in light winds means it was basically park n ride because big kites are very slow in comparison to what a 12m will do in 15 - 20 knots, producing huge power when rampaging across the back of the wind window in a dis-orientated turn or wipeout.
This is where the danger lies for a beginner... also when standing on the beach if a gust catches you out - it will lift and most likely kill you if you hit something hard... just read about the latest kite deaths around the world - kite high, big 'gusts' in average winds..
The kahoona if you can find one cheap in a 9.5 is definitely a better beginner friendly performing kite. Just because you rode an 18 by no means does it make you any better at holding a kite down in stronger winds ![]()
If you have had excelllent learning instruction & comprehension - with very good 'common sense'... a 12m waroo will be ok if the kite & bar truly are in good condition & cheap AND you get lighter winds in your area.
I personally learnt at 80kg on a 2005 12m Naish Torch, that a friend sold me cheap as it was all I could afford back then - givin what I know now, save your pennies and be patient, youll get a decent 2012 9-10m allrounder at a good price. Post how much youve got to spend in the S.B wanted section, you'll be amazed at what you get offered sometimes (as well as dorks) - then ask your question here again telling us as much info as possible.
This will accelerate your learning curve
unlike my slow arse experience ![]()

Best Waroo is a great kite.
Just avoid the 2010 model. It was a lemon and you are sure to find any no. of these as hardly used bargains.
All brands have done it - this was just Bests turn in the circuit. No reflection on every other kite they produce.

I've had waroos since they were born and a great kite for learning with. the 2010 was the best one. It was crap if you did not know anything about kites and how they worked. Put on 8" on the back lines and it is a great kite, the rear lines were to short. I put pulleys on the v3 bridals instead of the rings which reduces wear. They are Fast, have huge hang time, tough, and loads of low end grunt. best cocked up with the name as it was not a true waroo. It had evolved into a new kite, it was like a kahooner hp.
My jumping learning curve went through the roof after going over to the 2010. I still have a 9m and 13m, the 9m is equivalent to an 11m and the 13m is equivalent to a 15m. 9 is great over 25mph, I love it And i still use them
A great kite but needed modification. Very poor of best to let them go out Like it.
The older one will do you fine for a cheap learning kite. Good relaunch, friendly and won't punish you if it goes wrong, just let the bar forward and the power will release. The 2008 was a good year.
I now use Edges and they are a different level Again.
Good luck and you won't be disappointed with one if it is in good nik and cheap. They go for around ??100-150 over here.
