what about the new cabrinha omega, or the flexi ion 2 ?? - both can convert for more or less depower- ION2 from bridled 4 line to non bridled 5 line, and the omega from pulley to non pulley-ed bar- unfortunately I haven't tried any hybrid other than the hyper type so i really am not much use to you !

The Ion2 changes the way the kite flies by changing from 4 to 5line modes. the 4line mode is good for waves and gusty conditions. The 5line mode is pure freestyle. you can run the 4line bridles and the extra fifth line for safety (bigwaves etc) so it becomes a very versatile kite without having to compromise. Definately worth having a go on I'm loving mine.

Hey brad. i have just recently added my first hybrid to my quiver of kites. i demoed a few kites before making my decision and i am really stoked with what i have ended up with. i tried 11m tribal 9m atom and ended up buying the 9m rebel. i enjoyed the other kites, but i am so impressed with the rebels light bar pressure instant depowerability lightning fast turning and manoverability. Still keeping the old 04 c kites for freestyle stuff, but the rebel wins easy in the waves and jumps quite well also. thats my opinion and as i said the other 2 are also awsome kites probably my next pick would be the tribal(not sure if its classed as hybrid?). sick kite! demo em all i say!

good winds

Hey Bradools,

Dunno about the HyperType, however I have not purchased a 14 Rebel, and have demo'd the Atom, both 14 and 12, would have to say that the Atom 14 handled like a bit of a truck, turning speed was really slow, kinda felt like I had to keep on working the kite to get some power out of it. Then the wind picked up a little and I was able to try the 12, that was a totally different riding experience, turned faster, depower was there, behaved a little strange in the gusty contitions, felt like it was going to drop out of the sky a couple of times.

Then I demo'd the 14 Rebel, really liked the turning speed, considering it's a 14, comparing size wise, the kite is only a little longer and a little wider than my Aero2 12, so I guess that's why the turning capability is pretty good. Depower is awesome I was out in gusty stuff from about 16 - 24knots and didn't have to use all the de-power, not sure what speeds I'll be able to hold the thing down! Both Atom and Rebel have the 5th line thing going on, great concept, and worked well on both kites.

Best thing to do, demo as many as you can!

Good luck!

I have been on a rebl for the past season a 9 and 12.
i have really enjoyed these kites, they still have a few issues that need to be ironed out, like QUICK relaunch but on the whole they have been a really fun fast boosting kite this year. The positives have far out weighed the negatives.

Saw the Ion 2 up in kitestock, a very well made developed thought out kite, personally i didnt get to try it as the wind dropped out, however others i spoke to that did had nothing but praise and smiles.

Never tried the hypertype, so cant comment

hey PR how hve you been self launching and landing. landed in light winds how i would normally land my c kite, but thought it could become a bit dodgy in stronger winds.self launched by weighting the tip without folding it and it didnt seem to want to release the sand to easy.went up eventually. ive only flown it three times and havnt managed to try the relaunch.any tips. first hybrid i have had and got to say after only 3 sesions im really impressed.

cheers

My kite is the best, no mine is Notice nobody mentions the bad points

Hypertype hindemburgs bad

Rebel has some relaunch twisting issues

Larger Atoms are slow, lack bottom end and don't reverse relaunch

Of course this doesnt make them bad kites but you should at least be aware of thier possible downsides.

Self launhing sand a tip, it does work. Others like dave.... launch it like you would a bow ie just pull a back line to bring the acanopy round.
Self landing, using the fifth, fly to edge, as far forward as you can, pull fifth, around she comes. Bit hit and miss that one for me!
