Time for another kite for pretty lite winds... Most of the time it is 10-15knots. Have a 12m M80 but not quite enough to get me going. Was going to get a 16m M80 but then thought I might step up to a 2007 kite.
Do you think a 14m Havoc would do or should I go for a 16m Assault 2? Would ideally want a 16m Havoc but they don't have them in 2007 range. What are peoples thoughts on these two kites? (I am a **** rider.... still getting the hang of things).
Cheers
My old man has an AssaultII 16m, and I hate the bar set-up, and I'm not too fond of the kite either, but it is easy to jump. I just dislike the overall feel of the kite, and it just doesn't seem to want to go upwind very much. I haven't ridden the Havoc, so I can't comment on that kite.
There are other options... you could try another brand of kite - I think the Naish Cults and the F-One bandits are quite grunty kites. This would allow you to try maybe a 14m, because anything over a 14m turns pretty slow.
Or you could try a light wind board - I have ridden a Nobile EXT and they are pretty nice boards, but are pricey
The Havoc & Assault are very different kites. Assault works on a pulley system whilst the Havoc has probably the lightest bar pressure of all kites in the market. The Assault II has a very simple and easy to use bar system, unless you are looking at the 06 Assault I. The 2008 Havoc 12m will give you more bottom end than the M80. If you need further advice feel free to PM me. Happy kiting!
I have been riding Havoc 16m kite since Sep , it's really good kite under light wind .
less bar pressure and easy to go upwind . get one chance to try it around your area .
I have both the Havoc 14m 07 and Assault 2 16m as I am a 92 kg gorilla. Havoc does not have the low-end grunt of the Assault but offers lighter bar pressure and faster steering. The Havoc is more versatile in terms of use and wind range BUT... when the wind drops down to teh 10-11kt range, the big fella comes out of the quiver! Both offer smooth consistent pull throughout the powerband; the Assault just has more pull down low (think of it as having a lower 1st gear for pulling a heavy load up a steep hill).
Hope this helps. Happy kiting!
16 assault 2 is good for wakestyle cause its slow and pulls like a truck, combine it with a big wide board u could probably be up and planing and riding upwind fairly easily in around 11 to 12 knots mabe less if you are lighter. however i would go a 12 havoc over a 14 cause the 12 is just way faster and better and more fun and theres not that much difference in the bottom end for a lighter rider as long as you have a big board. plus onece the wind gets up you will have a ball. i ride a 12 havoc ans my biggest kite at 70kgs. the havoc is probably a more versatile kite and you will find that the 12 and 14 are both much faster than the assault 16 with much lighter bar pressure. both good kites with good build quality but i preffer the havoc.
