Have a small Dakine Fusion harness. It's great, but would the spreader pad make it even more comfy? If so.... what size? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I'll pick one up. I hurt my lower ribs a little while ago before I had the Fusion (out for 6 weeks) and have no intention of doing it again! I think the Fusion has reduced the chance of re-injuring them by about 95%. The spreader pad should take care of the other 5%.
Thx for theinfo Elizabeth
Even though I'm too lazy to read all the details in yr post, I can see you have the drum on women's harnesses. I have 2 daughters that I am looking to introduce to the sport next season. They may or may not like it, I don't know. But I think the best chance for them to enjoy it will be with a good harness. I'll keep an eye out fro a second had one between now and then.
I met you briefly on Saturday. Me (witht the Caution 16) and another guy with a Vegas 18 were standing on the sandbar watching all the lucky bastards with bows out havin a great tiem in the gusty conditions. Trevor (Thx man!!!!!!) gave me a go on his new waroo 12 (which has made me fall in love with Best).
Now that the westerlies are upon us (and wello is the closest option for me), hopefully I'll see you at wello and can plug you for some more info. No big rush, I'll just keep my eye out for a Dakine Tempest small size from now on.
Thx
Mal
Hey Mal –
Hey, that’s great you’re hoping to get your daughters into kiting too. How old are they may I ask?
It will be great to get more girls into this sport, and after they get through the ‘learning stages’ of being frustrated with either the wind, or putting board and kite skills together, they will absolutely love it. Lol ![]()
I talked to two groups of guys out on the sand bar on Saturday, and about six others either at the "beach" lol, or on the way out there. The first group when I came in and landed my kite after the first time out, and the second group, when I came back our and talked and then relaunched and kited for the last few hours. Soooo many faces I hadn’t see before lol, but it was great
(Was Greg the guy with the 18m Vegas? - so many names and faces lol
)
Hoping for a kite tomorrow afternoon after uni. Planning to be at Wello by 3.30 if it isn’t storming or raining, but if that fails, its predicted windy Thursday, so after prac, I can be at Wello by around 3.40. So cross fingers I can get a kite in sometime then
.
If all else fails, we must have enough luck for it to be at least 14-20 knots on sat or sun …. **cross fingers** ![]()
When you see me down there again, just give me a holler, or if either of your girls are down there with you, they are more than welcome to try on my harness. It’s like this harness was made for me. It’s just amazing!
Any info or anything, I’m more than happy to help out. ![]()
Cheers

Thx Elizabeth
Sent u an email
Thx Elizabeth that's great! I will definately come in to Goodtime with the
girls on a Tues or Fri and have a go. It will give them a thrill and start
to see what it's about. They are still young (12 and 14) although quite tall
which was why I am going to leave their IKO instructor lessons until early
spring, but trying out harnesses will certainly get their enthusiasm going
if they're seriously interested.
Thx again
Mal
Elizabeth and Mal, Trevor here with the yellow 12m Waroo from last Saturday. Magic kite, glad you enjoyed it Mal.
My daughter, who is 18, is interested in kiting. Has done a few 100m or so runs goofy, but none successfully natural, on a 6m C kite. I think she'll find the waroo easy in anything over 12knots (but not too much). She has some time off on Friday so we might get to Wello then...though I don't suppose I'll let her out in a westerly.
I'll try to get to Wello tomorrow morning - don't think I'll be able to get there in the afternoon. I'll have my sail boards with me and use them if it's too windy. It would be good to meet you, Elizabeth, as I'd like Elissa to meet a woman kiter...and to get a decent harness rather than the rubbishy old thing she currently uses. If you happen to see a small Tempest (Elissa is about 60kgs) going cheap, let me know rather than Mal as Elissa is already riding whereas his girls are clearly just thinking about it!!
Trevor
Trevor, that’s great to hear your daughter is really interested in kiting. I just recently turned 19 myself, so it would be great to see a younger female kiter out there too ![]()
When I started kiting, I was only able to go goofy (right), and it took some practice to be able to get my natural (left) stance and direction correct. Be very careful with taking Elissa out on Friday in the/ or any Westerly, because of the risks with gusts, and kite control etc. There were some seriously strong gusts that hit on Saturday when we were kiting which took me by surprise
This afternoons wind wasn’t worth heading out, though a few did bare the conditions, and had an alllllrriiighhhtt time. Not worth it though.
I’ll be heading down tomorrow afternoon right after prac, so hoping for 3.30/3.45pm ‘ish, and esp. hoping the wind shows this time! lol
Might see you there if you make an afternoon sesh. Predictions looking not too bad for the arvo. NW better than SW, but it can always change “Winds tending 15/20 SW/S in the afternoon. Seas 1.6 metres dropping to 1 metre during the day. Thundery rain clearing by afternoon.”
(Hopeful lol)
I’ll definitely keep an eye out for harnesses for both of you, three girls in total, but as I also mentioned to Mal, as the Da Kine Tempest is such a great harness, I haven’t seen one of any size up for sale as of yet, and Da Kine are bringing out a new model Da Kine Tempest harness which should be in stock very soon, which has the same great features, but also comes in pink/ charcoal, blue/ charcoal and black/ charcoal, if your daughter would prefer a touch of pink or blue, instead of a fairly dark harness (mine is the typical black).
I’ll keep this updated with how I go with the search ![]()
Feel free to ask any questions or anything you wish to know.
Thanks and goodwinds ![]()
Elizabeth Bate – Wello Kiter
yeah, there was about 30min of half reasonable wind this arvo. Then nothing
I had a few good runs though. When the wind was there, it was about the smoothest ride I've had yet.![]()
