Tried few demo kites for the last few days courtesy of Sonya and Jason of WA Surf Rockingham

Wanted an all around kite but good jumping was a pre-requisite

Tried Bandit 11m - liked it a lot
Enduro 10m - not for me, bit high bar pressure, loops great, jumps good, but tiring for a longer sessions
Evo 10m - good boosting but too scary to try any kind of loops (being a beginner at it)

Core Nexus - liked it a lot:

light bar pressure
great upwind performance
jumps great
fast turning
smooth power delivery
loops great - low power fast loops that encouraged me to try more
drifts well
stabe and predictable

Professionals might argue that some aspect are not up to scratch but for the amateure 'intermediate kiters' it is a great progression kite . Will allow you to try new moves without punishing harshly for the mistakes, will alow you to stay on the water longer due to low bar pressure, and will assist to recover from any poorly executed moves - so fast to get back where you wanted it in the first place.

Great all around kite, pleasure to use.

Will get one one day (bought Bandit just a day earlier)

We do mostly wave kiting on our local beaches.
Nexus do basically everything very well.
Being around 100kgs I use the 13.5m In 10-18kts for waves.
They Drift well.turning speed excellent.Fly back up wind well.Light bar pressure.
So far have replaced our
XR5 s with Nexus.
Bloody awesome kites.

Kited a reef break last few days in as little as 15knots and as much as 28 knots cross/cross off on a 7m nexus. It was very well behaved no luffing, turned it where i needed it...pretty furging impressive. My mate on his Ozone was def looking over the fence

Hi mate
Yes mainly start with a Duotone 5'4" whip strapped for chop or no straps for about 1:30hours then jump on my Nomad Team Wave 150 x 43 for the rest of the session.
The Nexus don't have the XR5 bottom end grunt but make up for it in turning speed and drift.
Mostly ride 1mtr larger than my XR5 That seems to make up for the less bottom end in the nexus.
But am happy we changed to nexus for mainly wave riding.
Quicker in the smaller sizes,
like most kites.

A Nomad Wave, I want one! A Nexus with a Nomad, that has a nice ring to it. Okay, I demoed the XR 5 13.5 and liked be it quite well but thought it lacked power vs my Rally. Maybe the wind dropped a bit, I don't know. What wind range are you getting with Nexus 13.5 and the Nomad? I take it you like your Nomad? Did you have a Mako before by chance?

Great on old knees.

Yes I agree with you Liegh, the slash drifts amazingly and is the easiest kite I have flown. However It's always a trade off isn't it. The pivots have unrivalled bottom end which might be more inportant to the kiter as they might be a kite wave rider rather than letting the kite drift and surfing the waves as I see 80% of kiters kiting this way.

I have been riding pivots for the last two years. Just sold my 11m, keep my 8m - much nicer in smaller sizes. After trying demo Nexus 9m I bought one, even though it has similar low end and wind range as my 8m Pivot. To me Nexus jumps as good as pivot but drifts and loops better. More smooth power through loops and turns, a bit faster turning as well I think. Did not really need this kite but I could not resist as I liked it so much. Personal thing though, all I am saying it is worth a try if you are not fit flexible adrenaline pumped youngster - smooth and easy kites are boring for them

I also have a Nomad Wave TT. Certainly an amazing board and could not be happier with it. That said, I am selective as to when I use it. It is certainly not my boosting board, but then again that is not its intended purpose. I love it in small surf that is not particularly clean. When the waves pick up I go across to my directional board.

As Leigh said, you won't see them come up second hand as people don't part with them. Simon at Nomad is great to deal with. They come at a price, but you shouldn't need to buy another one. As for the price, it lines up with the other top brand carbon boards so why not get one custom made.

Yes totally wrapped with the combination of whatever Directional board then grab the Nomad wave to finish the session.
paired up with a Nexus size depending on wind .
Smooth power, great drift,
boost occasionally.
very user friendly for this old fella.

Nexus, rode took one out for a demo last week. Demo turned into a 2 hours session. Loved it. Planning on getting one over the next few months!!

Had another fun session at my local small waves
plenty of fish about,
12-15 kts on my own,only one surfer and a couple of swimmers.
Nexus 13.5m Nomad Team Wave.Fun session bit of boosting carving and the odd slash.Lefts &rights.
Eat sleep repeat.
Can only hope.

And guys dont u think the unique size core bar pay something with bigger sizes like 13.5? Ok u can make some setting on the bar but same bar from 6m to 17 leave me Little bit skeptical

Just buy a 60cm bar any brand or just bar and throw all your stuff from your normal bar on it - and have a faster turning kite instantly

It has to be high V
North should be fine, as some old cabrina or airush. Not every bar

Do you definitely need a high v bar for the nexus. They say that about the bandit and on the smaller kites I prefer the low v on an ozone bar especially on the smaller kites. This helps open the profile up a little on them and makes it more stable and slightly slower which is better on the small kites as they are mostly too fast anyway. Thinking of getting a 9m nexus to go with my 11m bandit and 12m soul, but don't want to have to buy a new bar.

not sure about that mate. I personally have a 9m nexus which i exclusively use with a core bar, however have several mates who use different bars on 7, 9 and 11m core kites and one goes as far as saying he thinks the kites work better on a low V bar.

Generally you can use a low V bar on a high V kite, but not the other way around because then you will have a situation where the kite is being pulled into more of a C shape resulting in adverse performance.

Duotone has an adjustable split on the bar out of the bag, the neo recognises the y vs v split as 2 different flying modes. I have not compared the two back to back on the neo.

i have used the high and low split on the Reo, drifter, section and wave.

i suggest everyone experiment and form their own opinions.

i find a y improves relaunch, and decreases the turning radius. The con is a big sacrifice at the low end, and self landing. I think the difference is far greater without pulleys in the bridal, and I expected that(the wave has two bridals one with pulleys one without).

I have found the Core Pro Bar with the grey lines makes the Nexus feel like it's on rails .Its like it's even more direct and controlled.
Unfortuneatly there pretty xxy.
But Most Bar are these days.

There's no other choice with the Core bars.They are high Y.
