This ones for the girls... My wife wants to get into kiting but I have no idea about chicks gear and sizes. Some advice would great!

My wife is about 50kg, 170cm tall (usually wears size 6 or 8 clothes).

What is a good harness and what size will she need?

What is a good beginner board and correct size for her?

We will prob end up getting second hand gear for her first time round (just incase she doesnt get into it)

Cheers!

Maui magic make a good harness (my gf loves her's), take her to the shop and make her try on all the harness though so you get it right. They tend not to be a one suits all and you might find whe'd want a seat or waist or short harness.

130-135 would be a ok board to learn on and she could keep it for light wind days, if she wanted to push it you could go as low as 125ish. There's tons of good boards out there and you can learn on all of them. Chose a board for the location where you do the most kiting.

Yep I agree Maui Magic is an awesome harness, I wear a medium and am 56kg and 165cm... generally wear a size 10 though so your wife might need an XS if they make one! i wear it tightened almost to the limit. I coudn't find one second hand though so that could be a prob.

Hi There
It all comes down to what wind you expect your wife to kite in (learn in). Many girls like to start out in 12-18 knots in which case the bigger the board the easier it is to have fun and get up and going with out too much kite flying or board skill. Once she progresses, yeah, a 131 board would be pretty average, maybe a little smaller depending on the usual wind range and kite size.

I am 58kg, learnt on a big kite (13mtr Bandit in light wind 10- 18knots) with a good sized board (136) now ride a 10mtr Rebel with a 131 Nobile. Would never have had the patience to learn on a small kite as high wind learning was not a personal preference.

As far as harness, seat is more comfortable for me personally to learn with, having my chest up around my ears isn't all that comfy, however when she wants to go toe side alot or ride unhook riding if that is her bag, then she may go for a waist. Either way XS will be the go, but definitely try before you buy as I am yet to find a waist harness which I would call comfortable except maybe an airush which i tried recently. The smaller she is the harder it is to find a waist which doesn't press on the diaphram , just personal that one.

Most of all have fun learning and take the time to enjoy it.

I concurr with the Maui Magic Hana harness. It's alot more petite than other harnesses and fits around the waist really well. I wear a small but she'd need an XS (and they do make XS).

I ride a 134 Best spark board. It was the cheapest new board I could find and it cost less than alot of the 2nd hand ones.

I agree I use a Maui Magic size Small, I am 55-56Kg and it fits nicely. I learnt with a seat harness but I found a waist harness better for boosting and riding toe-side it gives you much more freedom. I also learnt on a 137x41 board but now I ride a 130x39.5 Cardboard Tempo. Which is a great board and only costs $850 Brand spanking new. Take a look on the Cardboards wedsite www.cardboarding.com . They have a great range of graphics to choose from. I hope this helps
