Thought I should try a few kites out now we have a bit of wind in Sydney ... albiet strong gusty westerlies ... so when I heard Steve had a few new demo's on hand I slipped in and grabbed a couple.
Yesterday at Kurnell the WNW was blowing in from the early 30's to 38 / 40 kns. I debated going out on the 9m Crossbow 3 as Kurnell has a bit of history for me so I know what a mother the westerly can be.
However, as we've been wind starved for a while I couldn't help myself.
I'm an average rider, 55 old and 100kg (heavy bones ... others might say fat bastad ) and I'm addicted to jumping .. the bigger the better.
The Crossbow 3 didn't let me down in this regard. It is a powerful jumping machine that gave me some of the longest hang time I've had on a kite. Its a very smooth kite to ride and bar pressure is very acceptable in fact I would have liked it to be a bit harder but thats how I prefer my kites. For the majority who prefer lighter pressure ... you will find it very agreeable.
As per usual with this type of kite it just ate up the gusts. A couple of times the wind blew very hard so I let the bar go.. Rick had already popped the stopper for me before I went out ... the kite hung there whilst the big one blew thru and I just regathered the bar and continued kiting ... pretty happy about that. Jason says it was about the time the 49kn gust blew thru ... it was a big one but I'm not sure it was that strong.
The kite is not superfast thru the air so for me I think it would be a bit of a struggle in the lower wind speed .... when it dropped to mid 20's yesterday it was all over for me but for you lighter blokes...you'd be quite happy.
All you bow lovers should give this one a tryout .. be interesting to hear other views.
I'm going to keep trying different kites this year.. there looks to be a smorgasboard of opportunity coming up.
regards
col
It was a great session CJP. Even when the wind backed off, that CB3 ripped me higher than Ive ever been. Its a great jumper alright...

Hey Col,
I hope you're well brother. It sounds like you're up to your usual tricks, also sounds like you are finally a flat kite convert, good to hear! Mackay's wind isn't all it's cracked up to be as Uco will probably tell you; so I'm considering moving to Whining Away to find some decent wind. Say hi to the Dolls Point crew for me and if you take a trip up the coast, let me know. I'll organise a welcoming committee.
How are u mate, been wondering where you got to. Hope you're still keeping the girls happy with that onepump of yours.
Jouko has been keeping me up to date on Mackay .... at least its warm there. I had a sess on Tue down here and the temp was about 7c all bleeding day. By the time I got off the water I was blue... but at least the ssw delivered the goods.
Cheers mate, hope you find some good wind up there

Forums are like washing machines, they both need agitators to function.
