Its up on the ozone website - but not much info out there.
I'm eyeing out the C4, but would like to first check out the Edge.
Still love my Edge II's from 2008.
Hi Bigmark,
I'll let you know in a couple of days. Mine are currently somewhere between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth enroute in a plane. I hope to have them perhaps by tomorrow, just in time for the most windless days in a row for ages, nuttin' but a sea of red arrows! Damn that sux! ![]()
A Review will follow once I can get it on the water. I'm quite looking forward to this kite as it is the one the designer and owners of Ozone are frothing most on. It's a big redesign from the previous Edges. Down to 5 struts, looks fast and is looking decidedly BOOSTY!
Cheers mate,
DM
NICE! Looking forward to hearing your verdict.
Hopefully u get some decent wind to give them a good test.
G'day Bigmark
Mine arrived last Friday, the day of our race series and I was too busy to test them, so I let sum2868 have a go, all I can say is they boost huge and seem to have great wind range and quick turning. Sum2868 was getting serious air, I'd estimate most of his jumps were in the 30 - 40+ foot high range, with great hang time and glide. The kite moves very quickly for an 11M the winds were a solid 25+ knots from the NE with an opposing/assisting tide.

Now I wanted a better light wind kite to suit local conditions here and Matt Taggart had told me that the 15M Edge takes that place easily for lighter riders.
I rode the 15M Edge tonight, between 5.45 and 7.30 in winds ranging from 9-15 knots according to the Sydney airport wind meter.
The board I used was a Nobile "Flying Carpet" 1.60 x 46 www.kitepower.com.au/catalog/product_17871_Nobile_Flying_Carpet_cat_415.html
I had grave doubts about this board and it has sat in the shop for around 6 weeks, having fun poked at it, well I'm happy to say that I'm badly mistaken, this is a serious light wind weapon.
I had no trouble at all during my whole session in literally flying upwind, and was easily able to kite out into the middle of Botany Bay (which gives you a nice downwind kite looping buffer if the wind drops). I was able to small transition jumps which was the best and most efficient way to turn that massive board with its huge 65cm fins.
The board is a massive calf workout, even as I sit here typing 90 mins later they are pumped and tight, hopefully a bit of stretching will sort them out for tomorrow (winds light and on again for sure)!
The kite is my new all time favourite light wind kite, and can't wait to try it in a bit more wind simply because it turns like a lot of 11/12m kites and I think it will boost to the moon with massive glide time. The way the kite turns/downturns and underturns, it will easily kite loop! The big difference this year is the Edge has 5 struts and this has definitely transformed the kite, along with other tweaks to the canopy. The kite is amazingly lively and reactive, same as I noticed on the 11M flown on friday by sum2868.
The thing that blew me away was towards the end of the session, I could see and feel that the wind was dropping, so I headed for home, still easily planing and going upwind. When I got to the beach I kicked the board off and then struggled to keep the kite in the air and eventually after hanging on the left side for a bit it just fell out of the sky onto the beach. This not a symptom of instability, it was just that on the beach there was virtually no wind it had to be less than 6/7 knots. First time I've experienced the ability of an efficient kite to make power from apparent wind in almost un kiteable conditions.
I have to say I had a lot of fun and got my fix on a day when literally no-one else got more than 10M off the beach!
And yeah I sell them.
Thanks for the review Steve, light wind ability sounds great. Especially needed when based in Sydney.
I currently fly edge 2008 13m and 9m, and keen to know how it compares to these.
additionally how it compares to c4.
I have been eyeing out the c4, and was looking to get the 9m and 13m, but it sounds like the c4 wind range and bottom end will be less than the edges I currently have.
Im after a kite with BIG boost , and power thru the turns - suited to riding in waves, the 2008 edge delivers the boost but the slow when transitioning.
I tried the SS Rally the other day, loved the power thru turns and reactive.
but boost was a bit disappointing. (but may just be my technique )
looking forward to hearing your verdict Darren.
Hi Mark,
Stuck in the shop all day but I handed over the keys to the Edge to a couple of likely lads whom I'm sure will post their findings. I hope to ride it more powered up on the weekend and give them a thorough thrashing. [}:)]
I'll review soon ...... I promise!
DM
Darren off topic but you have a cardboard wave in the shop right?
Any chance I can demo it on saturday?
I had a drive of the AKS loaner today whilst on a quest for a new kite.
Usual disclaimer.
17-20 Knts
11m Edge
102kg Ride
135 Select board
First thing you notice is the very wide stance it has in the sky it realy spreads out.
It doesnt have the bottom end but nor do you want it to I think.
Once you get it cranking it really goes up wind very very very well. Did I mention it goes upwind well. Its also very very quick upwind. I could go into the physics of why I think that it does it but ill leave that to AKS.
The kite can pivot turn pretty well but onto the main part why you want to buy this kite.
When you pull a jump and begin to fly you do actually have to let the bar out to come back down. This thing has major glide time. Im sure a few others out today agreed with me.
Kick arse kite.
Yeh buddy looking forward to it. Been discussing the wave with Pornstar, and i read your description of riding it like a TT, looks more and more like this is the board i'm looking for. Apparently Dan consulted Pornstar on the devlopment of a TT that would work well at Gnarloo and the wave was it! Now he uses it and loves it.
Yeah mate,
no worries, grab it on the way through from the shop if you like, then it will be down the beach for the demo day on Sunday. Or use it at Scabs and drop back into the shop before closing if thats better for you.
Cheers,
DM

Awesome mate appreciate it...
I've had 2 sessions now on the 11M 2011 Ozone Edge, duration approx 4.5 hrs. Both 11M sessions were in the lower part of the wind range for the kite, although there were some times on Thursday afternoon that the wind was around 20/22 knots. I had no trouble staying upwind and having fun on a Cabrinha Custom 1.36, and rode upwind from Dolls to Presidents in 2 tacks, this kite goes upwind like nothing else I've ridden.
The previous night I was on a Cabrinha Prodigy 1.44 school board, the wind never got above yellow arrows when I looked later on seabreeze. Also had no trouble staying upwind and getting some nice jumps. Other riders out that night were on kites up to 14M (one experienced rider/instructor was a 2011 rebel/surfboard combo) and could not match my upwind angles.
The Edge is a powerful kite, it is the flattest or has the highest projected area of all the Ozone kites. This year its a 5 strutter and along with tweaks to the profile its a much more agile kite, but still with that super lifty upwind quality. Turning is much better. The kite is still a sweep turning kite, but the initiation of the turn from small bar inputs is very quick. The kite does not turn tightly and in a pivotal way like the C4 and Catalyst, but it is still quick enough to do fast carving frontside/heelside slashes with up or downturns for quick direction changes.
Transition turns are easy the kite moves quickly over the top of the window. The kite has massive power in the turn and I have not been game to even downloop it while I am in the air.
Relaunch is super easy I crashed it several times and it was a simple case of pull on one rear line, then let that go and pull the other for a very quick pivot launch, then its just a case of push the bar out and gently steer the kite up.
Jumps will be massive with this size and the smaller ones, and you do notice it has the potential for massive hang and glide time, although I have yet to experience it in the "sweet spot" for proper boosting.
I put a very new beginner on the 9M Edge yesterday when the 10M School Catalyst she was using got a puncture. Student had no problem using the kite, and she commented later that she actually preferred it to the Catalyst. She was getting much better upwind angles on the Edge and was only walking every 2nd run.
Did somebody say stupid stupid big air?
I rode the 9m and 11m edges today and Even the worst edging produced jumps of 5seconds. If you locked it in well you'd be up there for 7-8 seconds
Darren the guys from the local shop were jumping about half the height of the strings and covering almost 50m before touching the water again.
It was maybe 20knots and this kite had everyone jumping like it was 30+
I finally had a go on it yesterday. Thanks Kitepower for the demo.
I had the 9m out, and wind was probably between 18-25 knots. (not sure if someone else at Dolls yesterday can verify this). Hard to tell on a kite I was unfamiliar with.
What I found about this kite.
Speed, height and hang time are the main features of this kite.
Jumping.
Just insane. It was quite hard to edge because of the amount of chop, this didnt matter, just the action of sending the kite put you up among the birds. Plenty of time in the air to direct the kite to where you want.
I cannot imagine a kite could be better for boost or hangtime.
Very powerful.
Much more powerful than my 9m edge2 2008. I never felt overpowered. But at times I suddenly found myself going really really fast, and needed to edge and push out the bar to slowdown.
Handles the gust just as well as my 5line edge.
Superior upwind performance.
Just as Steve said. I was amazed at the upwind angle I was able to achieve on this kite.
I think that although its a very easy kite to handle, is very responsive, light on the bar, very direct feeling on the bar, it is a kite that is probably more suited for a intermediate / expert rider. Not that a beginner could not fly it - just that it can get pretty scary at times.
I loved the new pump up system. Easy to pump and fully inflated in less than a minute.
I'm delighted to have finally found a replacement for my Edge2 2008's. I was wondering if a 4 line kite could replace the 5 line kite. Looks like it can.
I'm not sure how the edge would handle in waves, so will demo a c4 to compare.
Hi Peeps,
We've had the Edges now for a week or two and had a demo day last weekend where i got to ride the 11m Edge. I had the chance on Oz day to ride the 9m Edge as well both in reasonable conditions.
The conditions of each demo were in about 18-20 knots on the 11m Edge and around 20-25 knots on the 9m Edge. Water conditions were choppy and board was a FR136 on the 11m Edge and 135 Tempo on the 9m Edge. I weigh in at around 90 kilo's.
I was very comfortably powered on both days and had no trim pulled in, I'd say conditions were perfect and right in the middle of the wind range of both kites.
The kites are very powerful when you allow apparent wind to kick in ie, ride fast. This suits my style as I ride substantially faster than most. The Edge's have such a beautiful feel on the bar with what I consider perfect bar pressure when set on the middle rear line setting. Slightly heavier than C4 but less than North Rebel. The feel is very direct and the kites turn much quicker and more responsively than previous Edges.
The smoothness of the kites is immedately apparent, even more so than other Ozones which are also smooth. The sheeting range is so gradual and smooth that it has a perfect easy to fly and handle touch to the bar. The kites turn fast, but not as fast as a North or Catalyst or even C4, but they ain't no slouch. The power really is very impressive and the upwind is excellent. On one run I did 3 big boosts and a large jumping transition, then rode back and was 100m upwind of where I started on the Tempo (lot of rocker). Impressed! ![]()
The boost on these puppies is very nice, smoothly lifting you off the water, raising you to altitude and then holding there for seconds before a smooth and controlled soft landing. The height I got from the 11m was possibly bigger than the 9m and I put this down to chop conditions and edge on take off. Both kites went pretty big and it was joy to look down on others at the beach from height. I look forward to riding them seriously powered up. I reckon 25-28 on the 11m and 30+ on the 9 should see truly scary heights and monster hangtime.
I found them easy, intuitive, responsive, powerful and bloody good fun! This is a kite I would recommend to anyone looking for big air or old school style riding or racing. The kite is impressive in every aspect and most who demo'd the kites loved them. I don't think they will work as a surf kite and probably not for unhooked freestyle, but for big freeride and old school fun, nothing touches these kites.
I reckon they will be a very strong contender for the big air comp at Kitestock! You heard it here first! ![]()

Thanks for that review Darren.... have been eager to hear your opinion.
As I am 90kg, and live in Sydney NBeaches, where wind is not that great Im thinking a a 13m Edge and a 10m c4 combo might work nicely for me.
What do you think ?
Hi Bigmark,
Without knowing you or your style, your reasoning is sound although it really depends on what your style of riding is. The C4 and Edge are quite different kites and suit different types of riding. The Edge is the boosting lofty cruising speed kite, super smooth and fun.
The C4 is more the fast flying, les grunty freestyle/freeride kite. Go the C4 if you like kiteloops and a fasdt turning and flying kite you need to whip around. The Edge is a park and ride kite which can be chucked around, but there is no need, it develops more than enough power on it's own without having to throw it around.
Both are damn nice kite, just make sure you apply the right kite to your style and you'll be laughing. I'm sure Steve will have demo's of both kites in stock ..... might be worth a trip over the bridge to be sure????
Cheers,
DM
Seriously can't wait for mine to arrive ......Big Mark I have had the 13m edge and a C4 11m for the last 2 seasons. This season I am going back to a 13m and an 11m edge. Agree with Darren they are both seriously good kites but they do behave completely differently. I like the old school big air stuff recently I have had my 13m edge out in winds up to 30knots and the boost and hang time has been huge really enjoyable sessions, Kite loop transtions down loops all good fun in these sorts of winds and i have really got used to (and really like)the turning circle of the edge. The 11m C4 has a much narrower range and can be rediculously powerful or underpowered outside the range. I have had some massive boosts and good hang time on the C4 as well. where you notice the big difference is in looping the kite. I decided it is not for me and now am hanging out for my new edges!!!!!!!! Spend a bit of time on the C4 demo before committing to a C4. I loved mine for a year but now would much sooner ride an edge. I am 100kg at the moment and ride 142 styx when its light and a 132 TB whens its cranking.
thanks Rusty and Sum2868 for helping making my mind up . I've gone with the Edge 9 and 13.
will post my feedback on the kites once I've had a go with them in Capetown. :-)
hey guys
just wondering if anyone has an idea of what the bottom end of the 11m edge would be like for a 95kg rider, on a 135cm twin tip?
thanks huddy
i would guess about 16-18 knots ..... the bottom end of my 9m is 18ish. im 90kg.
not flown 11m so this is very rough guess.
Hi guys,
Writing from Canada, still in the snow and ice here. Always been a North Rebel guy (although I started with an Ozone sport). Intermediate for life I picked the sport at 40 and will not start twisting like a pretzel anytime soon.
Some of you know North pretty well, I have 2 twelves that I like a Fuse and a C4. I would like to complete my quiver with either edges 15 and 9 if I go thenozone way or Rebels 14 and 9 if I go the north way. How doesnthe Rebel and Edge compare when it comes to versatility and fun factor? I am 87 kg sailing in ****ty conditions, gusty, 6,7 gusting to 25 is a reality here. No waves but chop for sure. Going upwind is a must since we have trees and concrete walls to clear. I like the smoothness of the Zephyr so i think the edge 15 could give me that feeling but I likenthenfact that the rebel pulls you upwind even slow... Thanksnfor any insight.
@ Huddy 16/17 knots for an 11M at your weight on a 1.35
@flipper231BA
I've been riding the 15M heaps, and I will not require anything bigger for light winbd riding, will get me going from around 9/10 knots on a 1.52 x 46 board, couple more knots and I'm really starting to get some power and be able to do small jumps and transitions, upwind is awesome, this is a super lifty and hence upwind kite. It also has a good top end of around 20-22 knots for me on a smaller board like my 1.35 Cab Custom. Boosting is exceptional for such a big kite, and it does not feel like a 15 more like a 13. Im 75 kg and have a wide range of light wind boards to choose even a Nobile Flying Carpet.
