Interested to know wat differences there are in the 17 that are significant changes if any between the years indicated?
Thanks
Had all releases of the zephyr but this years kite is completly different in looks and performance, not in the lower but in the mid and upperlimits, much better boost due to the turning speed, very nice feeling at the bar light but connected, upwind and especially Downwind performance has hugely improved due to the edge DNA in the kite, this model is on 27mtr lines and a new mini bridle to the steering lines, imo this has stopped tip folding which you'd get on the older models under heavy loading, and also helps the kite out when tensioned turning, the reaction time is quick when pulling on the bar, powers up great, all in all a bloody great lite

have you done a search and read the pretty comprehensive zephyr thread ?

doesn't compare it to the 2011 though dusta. Looks like two different kites to me judging from the profile
... shourt answer: ... previous Zephyr ok but not very good for heavy riders
; ... new Zephyr very good for most, if not all riders ![]()
First time I rode the older version of Zephyr I couldn't believe the hype and lost alot of trust in the people who overly raved about it saying its the best thing since sliced bread, but the older Zephyr just didn't cut it in my opinion. Then I worked out it just didn't work well with heavy riders or people who liked to ride heavy (or aggressively you could call it).
Mate bought one, what looked like to me on a whim and my eyebrow went up when he pulled it out of the bag,,, hmmm interesting I thought at the time. I thought he just got caught up in the hype. As it turned out its a gem and most of the hassles I had with the old version where gone. Improved stability for heavy riding, great bar feedback, nice static pull and playful that puts a smile on ya face when the wind picks up.
I've got a 17m Dyno which I let my missus have a ride of recently, first thing she said to me when she got back was, "I still really like the Zephyr". The new Zephyr is the first kite a bunch of us here unanimously liked without a single complaint, even my son liked it for his flicky flicky tricks.
Sure the old version is a nice enough kite but I think the new version is a real step up! Oh and if this sounds like a pimp, nah,, I don't even own an Ozone kite let alone have a link to them,,, I love my North kites but credit due when credit is due!
cheers,

it doesn't compare those years specifically but if you read the thread it's pretty obvious that previous years are no match to the current model so that should be enough to answer his question

..... Don't you trust me Robbie.....lol!
OK I have a mate who is interested in one so all B**L S**T aside is it a sub 11 knot kite for a 92-95 kg rider ?
Also we're talking opean ocean surf use with an average TT or mutant.

Sorry 2013 model he's not interested in the older ones, and wants a kite that's suited to 9-15 knot range as he has a 13 so sweet in the 12-20+ range.

It'd have to be big and he's only gonna be cutting grass

Nope. Race board maybe. But on the above, nope all bullsht aside.
4xL I got a 2013 but you can't have it ![]()
Ta for the replies he's been asking me but have only flown the previous models ,I basically told him the same from what I'd gathered from reviews, his other kites of interest are the Dyno ,Epic Infinity ,Blade fat lady and Fury light 17,he was also thinking of a 17 edge but was a bit concerned on the lightness of build for our conditions ,it's a bit hard to get a demo here on some of these kites.
Radman you have would have read enough and been around enough to know the differences of these kites.
There is a plethora of posts on all these compared on the kiteforum as well. Depends on how he wants it ride and what he rides and what conditions he is in. Heaps of current and waves, stay away from the higher aspect ones.
Yes eppo I have been round long enough to know but he hasn't so was asking for others thoughts he should of prob asked himself the differences head to head, I try to be as impartial as poss but as I do sell some brands I suppose advice is always taken with a bit of skepticism ,it's a pity we can't just do some head to head comparisons but it's just to difficult.
I don't really care what he ends up with as long as he's happy with his choice.
Okay fair enough. either way at that weight he will need to consider board selection for that wind speed. Thinking a 19m edge actually but again depends on what he likes to do and where. Probably best to give some more info radman me thinks. You have colder more dense winds so that's something to consider as well.
He wants it mainly for a light wind summer kite but will get him to jump on and continue the post or start a new one,it's a bit colder here so we prob gain what equates to a knot or so, was considering the 19 edge but the worry there is the build its a very lightweight built kite for its size and we have harsh conditions here on the west coast with a lot of whitewater we rarely get glassy clean conditions,so he's worried about dropping it and it getting shredded ,anyways will get him to expound more on what he's after.
Board size radman! Yeh the current and build requirements and the need to relaunch. Think you may be looking for something lower aspect (aka core, blade, epic) or something like the Dyno that has some static grunt built in due to its large leading edge.
His two main boards now are W18 speedball and 150 Mako, dunno he's used to higher aspect but needs a moderately built kite for conditions.
Prob is those three kites unavailable in our area for demo.
Have got the new Fury 17 covered as have one arriving for demo this week but hard for him to get on the others.
Righto well he got some width there in the speedball. Weird combo, they almost do the same thing?
Fury is higher aspect is it not? Similar to an edge shape but has more static grunt and quicker turning from guys I have spoken to who ride them.
Sht get him on the fury and see, he with either like it or not. If he does who gives a flying pigs flunt about other kites, they get ya out in those winds, so be it.
They all seem pretty good to me. Seen the core and epic in action and they flew just fine. Not sure about the fat lady but crew like them to.
If he is used to aspect then the fury I'd say.
