Hey guys, new to kite boarding..

A guy I know is selling his 2007 fuel slingshot kites for $400. Both have new lines, in good condition, but I haven't seen pics or gear..
Is it worth $400? Or over priced...

Mate bought a 7m 2011 brand new from a shop for 500 April this year. Think it's exy myself and probably not the kites for you starting out.

You may be better investing that 400 dollars in either of the follwing;

Lessons
Mediibank health insurance.

Because learning on fuels may be detrimental to your health and others well being on the beach. Especially old banger 2007 fuels.

In the old days we learnt on Fuels because there was nothing else around. We suffered injuries & frustrations as a consequence. Today you'd be crazy to be learning on a fuel, and you'd be crazy to learn on any kite that old. They are worth nothing! There's heaps of good recent cheap kites out there that'll make your learning experience a whole lot more rewarding and enjoyable.

Why do people always say fuels are vicious, scary etc., I purchased one hoping for this but didn't find this at all.

Ben, I said with the availability of bridled kites and huge gains in windrange and depowerability, ancient Fuels are not a sensible learners option. You just didn't hear me. But I'm happy you "brought" one.

I bought one too and love it. There are more refined kites out there though, but that's what I like about it as it's a bit more balls to the wall. Not for beginners though and I would say that about all C kites. Yes you can learn on them but you'll progress faster on a delta until your kite skills are down.

Cheers mate but I will be fine lol.

I agree that they aren't the best option for a learner but they certainly aren't the animal that some people make them out to be.

Cheers for all the response guys! The decision to pass has been made.. But I'm sure I'll be looking for the more aggressive kite eventually!!

I wasn't disagreeing with your post Col I was just asking the question because I haven't found the kites to be super aggressive.

Also thank you for highlighting the fact that I chose the wrong word in my first post. Did you high five yourself after that and walk away from your pc feeling good.

I will pm you my future posts so that you can read through them and correct them for me.

Try riding an 07 towards the upper end or beyond its wind range. Not for amateurs !

Riding a Fuel in the middle of a kites wind range will be fine. They become nasty like the other poster said. Beyond its normal wind range. I beleive it's more to do with their aspect ratio/ c kite characteristics.

For me I'm a only 80kg. If I were to use my 9m Fuel in 30 knots and stuff up a loop! I'd be in terrible trouble.

If I used a 10m ozone..... I'd gently land like the weight of a feather.

Also with Fuels when you boost you need to keep them flying otherwise you fall out of the sky- and that's no good for your knees. Down looping is always good.

Yes they are.
They may not be 'animals' if U up for C kite. Fuels are one of the best 'C's out there & have changed little over the years (simply cos they didnt need to) but they are animals for anyone who isnt right on top of all the skills.
C kites used to kill kiters on an annual basis.
1) its not worth anything like $400 & 2) it certainly isnt an option for any beginner - at any price.
