Had a couple of rides on a 07 Sonic 11 metre I borrowed from Stonker. If you are a sonic fan you will love this kite. Matt has finally got the build quality right. double stitched reinforced LE, quality feels outstanding all over, improved pulley wear pads on LE. I can't comment on bar as I used my 06 bar with this kite. Overall it performs fairly similar to 06. It doesn't seem to flair as much as 06, sits solid in window with a touch more pull. Low end it felt similar, but appears to pull more than the 06 in about 15-20kn. Stalling has been reduced with LE cut back from ends and replaced with batons. As a sonic fan i rate this kite as a winner.
I don't think so, but they are not far away. give stonker a ring and speak to alex or aaron. Ph: (03) 52616077. happy kiting, catcha
Hilly,
The 07 kites are due in a couple of weeks. The demo models guys have been flying are an 11m Sonic and a 9m Trix. As waxhead stated the construction is beefed up a lot from last year with double stitching and reinforcement prominent on the kite. Feedback from the guys here is that the Sonic feels pretty similair to the 06 but is more stable and feels more solid in the air which is probably on account of a more solid leading edge. The Trix looks and flies like a true hybrid with a much more C shape in the sky than the Sonic. One of our teamriders that is a 100% waverider has been using it around Torquay and is very impressed with its fast turning and solid but smooth power and stability. It is more a medium aspect kite with a deeper profile than the Sonic and looks like being a great kite for waves and unhooked riding. This feedback is from riders that have been on Sonics for the last 12 months.
Cheers, Aaron Dyer

hi aaron
I have an 8 and 11 sonic love the 8 but find the 11 a little slow. only ride waves.
what sizes will the trix come in? and will the larger sizes be faster turning than the 06 11?
andrew
Hi All
If you are interested in a sonic(the original SLE and the best in my opinion) or a trix go to kiteboarder.co.uk/kitesurfing/gk-sonic-and-gk-trix-2007-info-pics-14794
for all the goss

Hi guys,
I have just started and am seriously considering a sonic. I know I should demo some other kites but I do not know enough about kites for a demo to actually make a difference. Therefore, I am looking at the sonic as the price is pretty good ($1599 complete) for an 11m. Since you all have ridden sonics, I am wondering if I should go for a 11m or 14m as I weigh about 95kg?
Thanks
Ken
It depends on where you will be riding and how often you expect to get out. If its somewhere windy and you don't mind missing some of the lighter days then the 11m may be sufficient, otherwise at your size I'd recommend the 14m.
I've got the 8 & the 11 and haven't missed out on too much riding by not having the 14m. Then again, I only weigh 70kg and have a nice flat board I can use in the lighter stuff.
Sonics are great kites - performance without all the hype & marketing. I can't wait to try an 07 to see what changes they've made.
Have the 8 and 11.
Would recommend the 11.
I am 110kg and use a surfboard, spend a lot of time on the 8.
No need to go for the 14 if you use a larger board.
The 8 is a really sweet kite gets me going in a solid 18knots plus.

Hello all,
Thanks for the replies. I forgot to state that I am in WA but the wind is not very good at present, which is why I was considering the 14m and 8m gap, which would cover all eventualities.
I am looking at getting the 2007 sonic as from what I have read, they are very good and there have not been any major bitching about them.
By the way, when you guys mention a 'larger' kiteboard, how large is larger as different companies define large differently. I have seen companies claim that 135 is a large, light wind board, while others claim it is around 160 to 170.
Thanks again for all the help.
Ken
Length is kind of irrelevant. Width is the key. My light wind board is 136x47.5cm with very little rocker. My allround board is 132x39 Underground FLX.
Length is more useful in stopping the tips catching and spraying you in the face or causing a face plant. If you go short/wide you need fairly narrow tips.
A couple of heavy guys in my area ride the Underground FLX 152x46. This is a great board with a huge wind range and very grippy. Highly recommended. I have borrowed the board and ridden it in 15 knots which pushed up to 25+. It does not get uncomfortable in stronger winds and chop.
Avoid heavily rockered boards like the Cabrinha Custom. Lots of rocker makes for a very slow board. It's like losing 2m off your kite size. They're fine if you want to ride super powered up and have lots of pop but for general riding they are awful.
Now knowing that you're in Perth I think you could probably get by with just the 11m. Just that one kite should get you riding on a pretty high percentage of kiteable days.
If you were on the east coast I think you'd probably want to go for the 14m.
agree with munter 11 the go
by larger board I was thinking surfboard
twintip it on stronger days you could hold a real 25 knots easy
I am in perth 85 kgs rode the sonic 11 as my only kite easy 80% of kiteable days, less fun 23knots plus and needed 15-16 low end on a twin tip on 20-30 kn forecast went to melville where it's usually 5 k lighter, brought a 10 venom and a 14 caution spitfire to fill in the gap and don't miss much now.

The kiteforum review of the 07 11m sonic is excellent, kiter had the 06 sonic and gives comparisons, explains how the new depower strap works and the KPO settings, kiting in various wind conditions, well worth a read. I'm a convert, can't wait for mine to arrive.
Excellent !!!!
I got a 07 Sonic 8 meters....and now I am just looking to sell my 06 sonic 11 and get a 2007...
$750 its bargain...
enjoy your sonic.....
Thanks for all the info. went with the 11m and its a fantastic kite. Nice and easy to handle and absolutely a peach.
