where would your dream spot be to kite waves in april?

cape verde looks good to epic, but it's pretty far away!

marshall islands, yeah, but not a lot of support and quite remote

new zealand, now that's the place

anyone know much about kiting nz in april?

needs to be with waves

he gets big winter storm cells good for dogstyle too.

I was told the best spot would be New Plymouth in March/April. Up North would be good too I'm sure, North Shore of Auckland or Mangawhai, though I've never heard any feedback from anyone.

Wellington rules lots of wind.

There's no doubt that Taranaki has the most consistant quality wind/wave combo in NZ. No doubt at all. You can kite 270 Deg wind again within a 1hr drive.

But April is not the best time of the year. The best time of the year is oct-dec for guaranteed wind/waves in the naki.

That said there will be wind and their will be waves in April. If you come to NZ in April be prepared to travel. . March sees the end of summer seabreezes and westerly flow.

In April wind can come from any direction. It is frontal driven wind. Some tropical storms sweep in from the north East making north of Auckland on the east coast good. We can also get rippers of SE winds which opens up south Taranaki for some monster wind and swell.

Lets face it. NZ is pretty small. Driving from New Plymouth to Auckland takes 5 hours. Its pretty easy to hunt the wind.

I'll get some grief for the re-post. But here's some naki waves.

Your right Stamp. Its horrible. YOU should never visit. Its cold, The sea can be muddy from the rivers..... Its a horrible place to kite.

If you are happy to kite alone, NZ's far north has so many options too. ****load warmer than the 'Naki but probably a little less wind. Options in all wind/swell directions including a 25+ km left hand downwinder in big west coast surf. East and west coast spots are 45 km apart with huge swell wraps on the west.

Penghu Thailand?

Oct,nov, dec are best for wid/waves. But fairly cool until mid Dec. Between 10-20 Deg C. So the best months for wind and waves aren't the warmest months. Jan/Feb has been 25 Deg C for most days. But less swell more seabreeze.

So how's Foxton?How about Invercargill?How's the east coast compared to the west?I'm looking at moving to NZ soon...

East coast has the flat and the mild swell. West coast has the big swell most of the time.

Foxton is windy. Epic flat. 20km beach waves are pretty cruddy beach break.

I don't know about Invercargill.... But I expect that to be a windy bleak placing being the bottom of the south island and closes to the roaring 40's weather patterns.

Yea, i wouldn’t like to kite in that Poo-Brown water either...

Invercargill was looking pretty epic - long hard beach for landboarding, 2nd windiest place in NZ, ability to kite in all wind directions. Looking at it, less opportunities for decent waves again. Coooold though.

Colac Bay has pretty good waves, wind is often a bit cross-off.
Serious waves in the Catlins, but the water is freezing from the cold current going up the East Coast, the south coast is warm by comparison.

Autumn often means south-easterlies in Taranaki, so a drive around the mountain is required.
