Was having a great session out at Woodies today on the 12 and 9m 2012 C4s, gained a whole new appreciation for the 9m when fronts came through, grunty kite.
Found myself in a bit of bother when a back line got wrapped around the bar, i had a feeling this was going to impact on my enjoyment of the day and decided to pull my quick release. Next thing i knew i was floating there watching my kite fly off towards the cement Jetty.
Yup, safety line had snapped. 2012 bar, well looked after and rinsed after each session, inspected each time i go out and very rarely used. Bit disappointing as from now on ill be second guessing weather its really worth pulling my safety. On the positive side after a bit of a baywatch style experience (running down the beach, diving in the water etc) i managed to get the kite back in one piece.
I've been flying ozone gear for about 9 years now and this is the first issue i have ever had with any of my gear, just wanted to let others know to double check their gear. Especially with winter approaching you want to have a bit of confidence in your lines.
YOW
Know how u feel. Had the exact same problem - just when I was the furthest from the shore than I had ever been B4.
Couldnt help feeling someone was punishing me. ha ha
Xon that day so no biggy really - apart from the swim in. That was a biggy!
The ozone kites come with a replacement flag line, it just never really occurred to me to think about replacing it.
I was lucking it was a westerly at Woodies, would have been in big trouble otherwise. It did make me realise how much it blows swimming in a wettie with a harness on though.
If you're not getting thrown down the beach I always try to fix the caught line before hitting the safety. Just got to remain calm. Bad luck dude. Glad your gear is still good
