I know some guy's have been riding old hyperlite wakeskate's for years with their kite and just tearing it up and having a ball. Does anyone else ride a real wakeskate n kite. What's
your favourite trick? And wave's or flat water?

Just wondering cause kiting has so many variables..

And what types of kites do you prefer with a wakeskate?

i don't have the patience or skill to progress past the stage of basic shuvits on flat water.
but i love riding a skate in small waves. it makes waveriding a heap of fun when the surf is only knee high, especially top turns

That's sweet. Haven't seen hardly any kiters ride em. It must be too hard too keep the board strapped too your feet without straps. Heaps more technical though
especially in 6-10 foot waves and looks like a lot more fun if you like a challenge...

Self plugging here, but that's a bit of footage of me below mucking around so you can get an idea of what stuff you can do.
I don't generally ride a regular wakeskate but I have done it before quite a bit, only problem is they tend to be a bit slow. Some of the older bigger wood skates were better for kiting especially if their rocker had flattened a bit. Best bet is to buy a custom one or make your own. Cab, Airush, Tona all make (or made) wakeskates specific for the kite, the Tona by far being the better one of the lot although the Cab is still pretty decent. For myself though they all feel far too big.

If so the thing is you cant just lean back and load up like normal. You need to be crouched and prepared for when you feel the pull of the kite to ollie the board a little bit and flick it up and forward into your hand. You can either flick it really hard where you are no longer standing on it, or, just bring it up a little bit where your feet are still on top. You can never really boost as high as normal unless you are going off a wave or something, even then you just cant flick off the water with the board behind you otherwise you obviously leave the board behind.

It's all practice, just try a few different things and see how it works out.

Kite wakeskating can be really fun, but I'm crap at it. My mate Tape is pretty good and always makes it look easy and fun!

How much wind do you need for a wake skate? more or less than a normal twin tip?

Depends what you want to do and what kind of skate you have. I would say less than for boots to just do normal skate tricks with a dedicated kite-skate.
