I would also just like to thank my local Bunning's for all the returns they have taken from me without so much as a question why? great service and who cares if product quality is rubbish!
Suspect Bunnings and other large retailers are smart enough to take back your unwanted goods on the good chance that you will go and spend the refund (and likely more) on something else because you are already there. If not then at least you have had a good experience and will come back anyway. Also keeping well within consumer law means less hassles down the track.
I think the "fading" or "lost receipt" is also something that can be relied upon by major retailers, although Bunnings can look up the transaction and either way will accept one of their own unused items without a receipt for a credit note.
As for BWS... I don't drink (much) just kite in it.
