After all the bickering, snide comments and general one-upmanship on this website for the past few weeks, it was great to see genuine kitemateship at Telephone Box, Cottesloe in 25kt conditiions about 7pm last night. One bloke self-rescued out the back nearer Dutchies and self-sailed in, using his downed kite in a 'U' shape, to about halfway between the Telephone Box steps and Cottesloe Groyne over those knarly, shelf-like reefs, but got his bar caught in a crevice for about 10 minutes in the whitewash (bet it felt like more, mate). While others stood around, another bloke, after a few choice jumps near the stuck guy

, came in, dropped his kite, ran down and swam out through the whitewash to pull the bar out from its snag and wind up the lines in the water. They shook hands on the beach. Cool.
