I found a Slingshot Verve 22 at the local dump, it looked like it blewoff someones car, the nose must have snapped before as it had already been fixed minus the nose.

A bit of q-cell to fill the rails, a nose from another board and hopefully once the wind kicks in it will be ready for the new season.





The nose I cut back the stringer a bit and slotted the board to fit the stringer tang and glued it in place with polyurethane glue which foams up. Once set I will reshape it to fit the contour of the board.

That looks like Sebol's old board. He used that board for 6 seasons. They have been through alot together. I can hardly believe he let her go.

She was a sweet board for the first 2 seasons. If she got damaged he would keep riding her and only when the wind stopped for a couple days would he take her in for body repairs. There must be a few litres of sea water inside her. Sadly, but predictably, with each repair she steadily got heavier and heavier.

After 5 seasons it was obvious to Sebol's mates that she was no good for him, always cramping his style. We often questioned why he persisted in staying with her.

He finally bought a slim new ride last season. She was much better for him. Light, agile and a bubbly personality.

The last word I heard on the old girl was that Sebol would like to keep her for maybe scurfing behind the boat or something.

I wondered why she was so heavy, there is a big heal dent that was repaired with half a litre of resin and glass, I may just take it out and fill it with q-cell and glass over. May leave it open for bit and try to get that moisture out, maybe a desiccant to draw the moisture.

My light wind board I snapped the side fins out, snapped the nose off my high wind board and my fall back board has a crack just after where I joined the two halfs together. Got a lot of repairs to do before the start of the season. I need to do a production line and knock all the glass work in one shot.

I will see how she goes, if she is a bit of a bitch I will renegade her to the spares quiver, I have a habit of snapping noses off.

for some reason he swapped the side bite fins around so the cant was inwards, can't figure that one out.

We will see how she turns out, I like a challenge.

Seems like a lot of work, I admire very much what you are doing but are struggling to find an answer for why you didn't just get a regular surfboard in used condition and add some more glass? (surely you can do that as well). This board sounds like it weighs a ton! haha.

Not really, it's a lot easier than an entire board and the fin boxes are still good, normal boards can't handle Perths shore break and the chop creates ripplEs underneath.i have a normal board bought new that I road for one sEason that have already repaired every fin box at least once.

i have a board that Cory rode strapped and snapped in half just in front of the front fins that I repaired six years ago and she is still going strong even though I keep snapping the nose off. Some people have commented on how light she is which I thought otherwise. She is an Airush tuff light board, I used balsa wood too repair the divinecell, replaced about 4 inches of it across the width.

i may have spent maybe an hour on this board so far in between painting a fence, it keeps me out of mischief.
Its Perfect for a spare stuff around board.

Unreal, the old girl has resurfaced.

I have loved that board for many seasons and it would have seen more than 200 sessions!!!!
I am stoked that you are giving it a new lease of life.

The nose missing actually occurred on the water at Trigg point on a fast outward run, I decided to go a little more downwind as there was a bunch of esky riders at the point.
Unfortunately I timed it wrong and a set coming through drained all the water in front of me and I ended up punching the nose into dry reef at full pace, I then impacted the reef (lost a tooth from clinching my jaw so hard out of fear) and lost a bit of bark getting dragged across.
I was so pissed off with myself that I kept kiting the full session despite the blood but I made sure to not do too many body drags!

Nose was repaired at the shop but they could not believe that I took the board back without giving them time to paint it as the wind was pumping!!!!

Never was the same without the nose so glad that you are giving it a new life.

The heal dent was repaired at a shop!!!!

Anyway, I can't wait to see the end product, send me a pm and we can catch up at the local some days to check your handy work.

Sh!t, sounds like you are tough on your boards and yourself. Hows the new board holding up?

Its good to learn the history of the board. Do you recall how deep that heel dent was, did you notice any difference in the weight of the board after the repair?

Deffinately, I will even let you ride the old girl but stay clear of hard objects.

I have a thing for old gals, my other hobby during winter is to fix up old 80's Mopeds.

this is one I pulled out a skip for 50 bucks, I am hoping it will be my upwind commute during kite season once I get it licensed. It's got a massive 50cc of raw power and reaches a whopping 53km/h downhill. Going to mount a carve scooter board rack and i have a 65cc cylinder for it once it has been licensed.

Loved that board it was my first kite/surfboard rode it strapped 99% of the time as we did back then.

Still love kiting but there is just not enough kite-able waves in Perth for my liking, so yep I have become a bit of a sup addict these days.
Started out surfing, then downwinding (races like the Doctor and King of the Cut are sooo good) then even got into flatwater paddling, marathons, sprints you name it.
Even gave up my spot in the L2L last year (despite having bought a custom board especially for it) so I could do the King of the Cut race and paddle 24kms instead, yep I know that sounds crazy but what the hell I enjoy it.


I'll be sure to come and see you when I snap a sup in half.

Yea, as long as you get the Stoke, any sport will do. I would love to get into SUP downwinding and sprints, time is a big issue during the week, I would only be a weekend warrior and that would not be enough with endurance sports. I use to do surf ski racing and got super fit but different place and time.

Still working on her, done all the glassing, sanding just cleaning up the rails a bit, the profile is a bit different to the original shape and my resin has gone off a bit and had to remove it as it never dried. This week I will spray and clean up, no rush as the season is still a few months away.

when I am done and happy with my work I will post some pics, I have a bit of a problem I hate my paint jobs and off en rework it till I get it right or get bored with it.

Oh yea, I weighed her and she is 4.4 kg before glassing, a bit heavy but I will compare it against my other boards.

That does sound rather heavy, it's the same weight as my Kiteskate and it's meant to be a rock.
