can anyone recommend a good go pro kite / line mount that keeps the camera level whilst the kite moves? Or can anyone recommend any 'competitively priced' video editing software that can do that, please?

I did see an edit with Suzie mai and the Mount would stay level through the turns. I left a comment but all they said, it's a proto type. It was actually amazing.

Thanks Kemp... I'll keep looking. I do have a few mounts, but nearly always end up getting seasick when I watch the footage back... more at the constantly moving horizon as opposed to my lack of skills.

I'm sure there is one available, there was a post and video on it a while back.
Not sure if it will cure the seasickness, could possibly make it worse but it did look pretty good

Try a Cam rig it's pretty stable and affordable at around I think $80, the only downside is you sometimes have to flip the image up the other way and it's kind of annoying to set up.

You can upload the video to YouTube as a private video and let it do the "shakeycam reduction". I don't think it will do complete rotations, but it's worth a shot.

I havent seen a line mount that does that but the SKORD Mount auto levels and its a strut mount, they are very expensive compared to the normal camrig strut mount at $129 (not sure if that includes shipping from the states either)

the camrig line mount is good. Very stable on my ozone lines and because of its mounting position is not constantly turning like it would be if mounted to the kite. only thing is the image flips upside down on every other tack. this is easily edited with the gopro software. Or if you get the new gopro4 it automatically flips the image as it has a built in giro! wish i waited for that one!

I did see one of these on a crowd funding website 6 months ago for a go-pro mount (hence the prototype thing for Suzi).

It basically has a gimbal so it stays level even as your kite rotates.. you can use it for all sorts of other sports like motorbikes etc too..

Works like a drone gimbal mount except does a full 360 loop

Greggor, the Skord seems like the go.... I'm just concerned I won't get the straps round my Dice (it has a fatte rthan usual strut!)

Thanks Rosie. Yeah, it's the Skord Greggor mentioned. Super tempted, but they're pretty pricey for what they are... but hey... sometimes one has to splash out...

If i understood idea correctly just this rotating part is kind problematic.

If you shoot in 4K on Hero 4 and then edit in 1080 or 720p you could use software to keep the horizon straight and likely take out most of the shake.

A mate was using a Skord on his LEI while we were kite buggying in QLD over Easter.

It takes a bit to get the friction screw on the bearings just right, so it swings around smoothly to the lowest position.

A bit of grit buggers it up fairly easily. We were land based so may be a lot better on the ocean.

It's a fine line between swinging and a smooth transition. (or just stuck at 45 degrees.)
After a bit of frustration, we used a drop of sewing machine oil to lube it. That seemed to work better, but you have to keep it pretty clean.

We ran out of time but I wondered if it was mounted further down the strut and short "GoPro straight extension" down to the camera. (the ones that don't rotate the camera 90 degrees) would help get it to rotate to the bottom each time.

It does take awesome footage though when you get it set right.

There are some gyroscopoic mechanisms but they are still pretty heavy and very expensive.

Best way is to improvise it with go pro as Chook2 explained and high resolution what Rowdy said. There were some (non go pro and pretty old) mechanisms that would mount a VHS camera with slight "delay" in turning, purpose was to "hold" the picture as horizontal as possible on side of the ship in the storm and waves dramatically reducing shaking, it was time before Win 95 if i recall well so no software could reduce it probably.

Soften camera movements with that Skord or what the name is, shoot video in 4K with widest lens possible and keep the action in 70% camera view around the center. I know u can crop and track image with Aftereffects, fix lens distortions and further stabilize it reducing leftover shaking.

We also did something similar in university, attaching in this case "camera" on a loosened bolt and hang little weight on the bottom of the "camera", where weight would try to keep "camera" as horizontal as possible since gravity is always pulling the weight down, and used some bearings to soften transitions trying to reduce more movement. It was a lot more complicated than this but principle is the same and it worked in 180 degree swing very very well. But that's just time consuming and 2 much brainstorming.

4k+ video with high framerate will get this done smoothly on the pc in the future.

Or ask military to give u laser navigated micro motors and mount a go pro on it :D
