I picked up a non kite construction firewire vanguard for cheap. I was going to put launchpad deck pads on it from my shinnster but I was thinking of possibly putting a layer of 4 or 6 Oz glass underneath my feet and the pads to prevent pressure dents. Has anyone tried that before or is that a bad idea?

We are using 6oz glass with 6oz carbon stingers woven into the fabric on the deck which give it strength and also allows flex Smook brds There is also a 4oz fabric with 6oz carbon. But not cheap Pic of 1 layer

Go to a shaper and buy a 6 foot sheet of glass and some sun cure epoxy resin.

Sand deck and top of rails.

Glass it, put in sun.

Lightly cut/sand finish the rails where the cloth hangs over, and maybe a coat of resin over the rails if the cloth is fraying or sharp. I wouldn't bother finishing the entire deck properly because it will probably break eventually anyway.

Thanks for the advice Bene.

I already have some polyester resin and catalyst from Fiberglass Resin Sales in Welshpool from a previous repair to a different board. Do you reckon I should get some sun cure epoxy instead of using the polyester resin?

Also what weight of glass would you do?

Cheers

Leave it as is. You'd wreck a decent board by slapping more glass on it.
If you learn how to ride it being light on your feet, it will last a long time.

depends how much float hes got. im with you, chances are adding the extra weight will **** the board specially only on the top deck surely that would make it tippy. but if a surfboard had stack of float like a fat fishie would adding a 6 top 4 bottom ruin it aswell?
