I found this old post about road tripping from Melbourne to Perth but it's too old to post. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/Road-trip-Melbourne-to-Perth/
In late Sept/October I'll be crossing the country on my bike with my kites and boards. Going to take a few weeks to do it and see where I can stop along the way on windy days. Any recommendations where I should visit? Anyone else going to be driving across around then too?

I am interested in seeing what your bike looks like fully loaded.
Did it a couple of years ago but didn't take my time with it. Check out Lake Albert SA, Glenelg SA, Parham SA(free camping and easy to catch crabs), ceduna SA, Eucla wa, Albany wa, maragret river wa, Augusta wa. Anywhere with the right wind, wind direction and water and you're right to go! Do not drive at night and make sure you have accom sorted before dusk. Enjoy and stay safe!
I'll post a photo when I depart but here's what it looked like before I got to Melbourne (started in Brisbane) with one kite and one board. Now I have 2 more kites and a shinnster too. I'll be building a custom made Bunnings pvc board rack for under $10 off the passenger peg for the shinnster as it's longer than my twintip and might actually create lift or snag a road train.
I think they may have used my bike for inspiration on the new Mad Max bmw bike. Maybe I should cover mine with leather before I reach the Nullabor, but I'm attached to my sheepskin seat.
The further north you get in wa the more boring the roads become, no scenic winding biking roads, spoke to a few blokes from nz on a trip, seems steep point is popular as an east to west run, however the further north the better the winds become, and lack of other kiters, some great spots to check and stay on your travels, big roos at any time of day so be safe
Thanks Cauncy.
I'm on my way across with 4 kites, 3 boards, a guitar, spare tire, my trusty hammock tent, camera stuff, and a few things that don't normally go on a motorcycle trip but are near and dear. I'm in Kingston/Robe waiting on the Seabreeze that's suppose to come today. Later this week Adelaide then slowly across.
Karma thus far I suppose. I have two Pacsafe steel backpack nets I can throw over my bags to lock them down if I feel unsafe, but I haven't needed to use them yet.
Hoping your having fun. Always wanted to do it but cant cook:)
Have the cops pulled you over for wide load. I thought its a no no having a board on the side of your bike?
Should be easy to get a wheelie happening.
Hi Bletti
I wouldn't recommend having the board so far forward as you can't get your leg out to support the bike, especially when you put your foot down on some gravel etc. in a carpark and your foot slips sideways. Been there, done that, fallen over :-)
My board sits further back and more upright. Also check out the pneumatic hose fittings that I have installed over existing bolts. They are extremely handy, quick release and cheap. I replaced the bolts with stainless cap head screws that I machined down to fit inside the pneumatic fittings.
These pics are a year old, I have since made a frame that lifts the board up more vertically so that the bottom of the board is at seat height..
Cheers S
Thanks Cauncy.

Looking good, here's my kite buddy from robe south aus, doing it a bit harder,
Call in Dongara on your travels and I'll crack a cold one on the grass with you
Good onya!
Wind in adelaide is average at best at moment though seabreezes are starting. Happy to lend you some grass if you need a place to stay while passing Adelaide just pm me
Enjoy yr ride!
Finally made it across the Nullarbor and to Perth! Great kiting at Robe, Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Ceduna, Cactus Beach, Lucky Bay, Esperance, Albany, Augusta. The only casualties were my shinnster fins and my beat up colemans air pump cause I'm too cheap to pay $50 for one in a shop and there weren't much for shops on the way. Heard from a few truckers at roadhouses along the way that there was talk of me on the radio. Apparently 440kg of bike, man, and kiteboard isn't a normal sight.
