hi all. has anyone travelled to Mauritius? it looks like the most amazing spot on the planet. has epic surf and sweet sweet lagoons. flight centre have some good deals going at the moment but it would be nice to no if any1 has been there and want to share there experiences (good or bad). doesn't look like it would be a long trip for all you guys over in west OZ.

It's excellent value for what you get though..also great being part of a group. Add up all that's included and it's totally worth it.
We had good winds most days had about 2 or 3 days no kiting.
I took .. 7, 9, 12 mostly used the 9...

Got to go for free last year on a corporate offsite - how good is that!! Had a few days down at Le Morne - awesome set up with flat water and some serious waves if you want to go for it. One Eye is side offshore so a bit sketchy if you have a gear issue or aren't confident in bigger waves. Saw some seriously good kiters throw down big moves.

I took a surfboard and a 10m kite, which worked well. Surfed two days when the wind was down, then had a couple days on the kite. Was able to rent a smaller kite from the Mistral centre one day when the wind was nuking. If I went again I'd take an 8m & 12m combo.

Kitethrills definately the go, I spent 3 weeks with Mike & Lisa at this fantastic destination last year. I met some awesome people. The boat backup, photography, hire cars, SUP & other organised activities are really worth the additional cost. Would like to go again if I can get the dollars together. I am 88kg & used my 8m & 10m most of the time.

kiterthrills option woul be great but... without meals included i think that's a little steep. if food was included it would make the trip much more affordable. For a 2 week trip it would cost you at least $3000 there plus whatever flights cost, so total would probably get up around $5 grand. tempting but exy!

Hey!
Looking at Le Morne mid this year, can anyone tell me where you stay on the trip? Is it hotel or hostel?

Or maybe I make my own way and drift out to sea when it all go's wrong at one eye.

Cheers

This accommodation in La Gaulette is very reasonable and within 15 min drive to kitebeach. Has good food options, supermarket & an auto teller. http://rusty-pelican.com/contact.html There are big hotels right next to Kite beach & beginners bay but I never heard any great reviews but worth a look.

Club Mistrel have a rescue boat if things go wrong but it is very costly & depends on what color flag they fly for the day

cost- allow about $30 per day, food vans at Kitebeach cheap & fantastic.

Trip with Kitethrills in my opinion still the best way to go. You get what you pay for! Will go back this year if I get the $$$$ together.

We went in June last year, had some massive swell, not a lot of wind, but did get a few sessions.
Pics are Keahi supping, Mike Raper and Keahi kiting, and some unridden One Eye monsters when it was not windy and too big and gnarly to surf. I'm a long way from the action and the shots are cropped, lens was a 500mm with a 2.0 extender!

You can get flight + baggage + hotel discount here www.mauritiusfreeride.com/packages if you are prepared to stay on the airport side of the island and travel to Le Morne.

Hi guys

I am off to Mauritius in July-August, amazing kiting and wind pretty much every day. I have rented a two bdrm flat and there is a free bedroom between 15 July and 26 August. PM me if you are interested and I can give you the details (cheap and includes rental ute, much cheaper than any organised windsurfing/kitesurfing organised tour). I was there last winter, Le Morne is the most amazing kiting spot and the waves are out of this world (Check out 'One Eye' on Youtube or Vimeo).

Cheers

Ditto for Kitethrills from me.
There is also an awesome annual event on Rodriguez Island.
I dont know a whole lot about it but from first reports & checking it looks like a huge MUST DO to me.

If you dont do the Kitethrills thing - ask around once you are there for Nico? Met him once - has a school over there - top bloke & local 24/7/52.
