Amazes me how many people I see out on the water not wearing sunnies. Protect your eyes folks!

So what sunnies do people use?
I find them quite distracting and awkward. But I do get sore eyes after a session sometimes.

Perhaps it is just a matter of getting used to them?

If I don't have my sunnies for the water I don't go out.

Just don't masterbate 9 times a day and you should be fine, i also heard you can't climb to heaven with a pinched finger full of willeeeee

I'm using ocean atm polarised, my eyes are particularly irritable

Sunnies are fine for lawnmowing
Terrible for in the surf

I find the polarised ones are worse because you can't see the chop. I've just used cheap dark colour glasses. But the minute you get suncream on the it's a nighmare.

I tried some Seaspecs that I found washed up on the beach (no damage). Used them on a downwinder here in Perth and the polarization was pretty bad for seeing the chop.

Took them off within seconds of launching. I figure the previous owner threw them away

When the inside of the lense gets a bit funky, sink into water rub inside of lenses on Rashi, problem fixed in 20 seconds

This is how they remove a pterygium, your awake while this happens with your eye pried open so you don't blink.

Can't see the chop? Don't know about that I see the chop just fine and my eyes feel fresh after a sesh

I am sooo kicking myself... Just recently bought a pair of LiP sunglasses after getting gritty eyes after a lot of kiting once to often. ( See another thread on sunglasses for kiting)
Absolutely fantastic. Should have done it years ago. Good vision, repels water, if they get a bit salty give them a dunk.
I clean them after every session because they cost a lot. So what, put a price on your eyes health.
Yes I can see the chop, maybe not as well with them off but I am still kiting after day 4 without squinting and gritty eyes.
Next some idiot will me posting that they don't put sunscreen on because it makes their body to slippery on the surfboard.

Best kiting sunnies ever were Oakley "Waterjackets" (non-polarised, of course) -- $230 when new, but I'm still using the pair I bought for kiting in 2001, unfortunately, you can no longer get them or parts for them, but every now and again a pair will turn up for sale somewhere...

Wow they must be incredible for that price, but if your still using the same pair for 15 yrs it's not bad, I go through them to be honest I'm on my 3rd set in 12 months

I had Waterjackets as well until a few years ago and then started using LiP sunglasses and they are better me thinks by miles. The lenses on LiP need no water repellent solution at all and I think wear a bit tougher with mine standing up with less scratches. All this BS about cost of sunnies when a harness costs just as much but nobody complains about that.

I had Waterjackets. I thought they were overpriced crap. Unfortunately they were the only glasses available at the time.

I now have two pairs of Lips glasses. The moderately expensive Surge, and the very expensive Typhoons. The Surge are very good. The Typhoons are excellent.

They're both more expensive than Seaspecs and all the rest, but they actually work, and that is priceless.

Had a sweet session today in Vietnam with my polarised sunnies on and could see the chop no problem!
Kiting happens when it's windy there will be chop, how much chop do you need to see?

Like QuickDraw, I had a pterygium removed when I as younger (seriously painful afterwards) and have worn sunnies on the water ever since with no recurrence. These days they are prescription... Currently use either Eyres or SeaSpecs with the retaining straps. Try a bit of Rainex to keep the water beading. No problem with polarizing - can see the chop and waves no problems.

Based on the discussion and recommendations here I've decided to have another attempt this time using the LiPs sunnies as mentioned above.

I just bought them from the Australian store (goggleman.com.au) For anyone that's interested, I found a Facebook discount code that still works for 20% off - Lip2018

I started using angling sunnies which are designed for maximum anti glare and have my own simple retention system similar but simpler than the LiP system. I went to a camping shop and compared several pairs and different brands and got what were the best to look through for my eyes

when I go kiting in the middle of the day (this is WA) the polarising is terrible for seeing the chop, whereas later in the day I can see the chop ok with polarising? go figure.

DIY - replace as required (buy and make in bulk - always have a spare!!)
Set safety glasses - lense of choice (light / dark polarized plain etc)... Easier if they have their own hole near end of arm.
Fishing swivel thing-me (buy in packet of 10)
bit of elastic for necklace enough to go around your neck (JIC - loosely!!)
Measure, cut, tie and sew bits together ..
Does the job - don't feel bad when .... loose, leave behind at showers, run over by car, kid fancies them more than you... etc
My expenditure on expensive sunnies plummeted... about 12 years back... since $25-30.00 a pop (quality safety glasses!!)

I've found non polarized sun glasses are best. The polarized ones look through the surface and can be disorienting.

Chop will always be on the surface, there's no need to focus in on every piece of chop
