I am wondering how safe it is to kite in salt lakes as there is two salt lakes that stretch like 50km in SW aus but I wasn't sure if viruses/bacteria proliferate in them. After all the birds **** in them all day long and they stagnate.

Also, is the mud the same as quicksand? I was up to my knees pretty quickly today I think it would be pretty difficult to get much further out.

It makes your gear stink, so best if you go naked. Also don't use sunscreen, as the chemicals react with the pond scum and give you a really bad rash.

Aren't salt lakes super shallow? If so rip the fins of and blast around on the butter flat.

Ps never heard of quicksalt but have kite buggied through quicksand. It won't be a problem when your kiting.

I doubt you're die. Let's us know if you do!

Doesnt sound like anyone here has kited a salt lake. Blaze a trail and be the first one to do so!

Jeezus mate, A girl takes on a salt lake by herself but when I think about I shy away and ask an internet forum if I am going to die lol

apparently if you swallow any water you end up throwing up. I wonder if excess salt is toxic in anyway also

This is only 30 min from my house so now I'm gonna have to go try it.

Cant imagine swallowing any large anounts would be good for ya. Just off to the right of the photo there's an algae processing plant. The algae is what gives the colour and is used as a food colouring agent and a source of vitamin A from the memory of a school excursion years ago.

Keep in mind the is PPM of saline is so strong it burns your skin. The shoreline will also cut you to pieces.

Wear booties and dont do anything risky, as its also bloody shallow.

But do have fun.
