As mentioned, has anyone kitesurfed any spots on Fraser or Morten island? Google earth looks inviting. Just wondering as a crew of us are coming up to travel around these islands and up the east coast. So we may aswell throw the kite gear into our 4wd's

Plenty of guys still surf both islands , don't personally know of any attacks, you will see sharks just like heaps of other spots in Qld & NSW , but they seem heaps bigger which freaks everyone out.

Was a fatal attack at Boulders Moreton Island 1992, was a fatal attack at straddie the next Island in 2006.
Fraser Island is prob considered more sharky again.
When working on prawn trawlers was plenty of sharks in those areas.
But people still surf all those Islands. Bring your kite gear.

Hardly anyone kites the ocean side of Fraser, but the kiting can be very good in Hervey Bay itself. Double Island Point just south of Fraser is excellent in anything Northerly and accessible only by 4wd.

Kited Moreton island a couple of months ago... Kited on the East side and can get pretty wild and there's no one to help you if you get stuck, havnt tried the west side. Best option I have found is on a northerly at yellow patch. Never kited at Fraser though

Moreton island is ridiculously expensive to get to. We looked at going there for a weekend last summer, were looking at over $350 for the return trip. W.T.F! Maybe worth it if you're going for a week.

If a competent kiter in the surf.
Definitely take a kite or 2!!
I've kited Fraser numerous times (always solo). Not by choice, but I head up there every year for a family trip for 2 weeks, mainly fishing and exploring, no other kiters in my group, but I always get a few good sessions in.
Yes, it's very sharky, particularly when the whales are cruising by and when the tailor are running. I prefer a low tide, and just do downwinders, that way I don't need to head out beyond the breakers. Be sure to go wide of the tailor fishermen though, a pilly on a set of gang hooks and a #5 sinker can be cast a looong way

I kited the western side of Moreton a few weeks ago at the wrecks. Wind was a westerly with about 20 – 25knots being recorded at Cape Moreton and about 15 at Redcliffe, however it was much less where I was. My theory was that the sand dunes were messing with the wind. I couldn’t get out far enough to test that theory. Also there’s a lot of current running through there. Don’t think I would bother heading across specifically to kite at that spot again. Awesome place for camping and as mentioned yellow patch looks good.
