Has anyone been kitesurfing in Japan and know if there are any good wave riding locations?

Cheers Pete.

Yes.
Yes.

Which part? If you're not stuck in one place then Omaezaki is the Mecca, they say. Local guy was riding double head-high on a 5m kite . . .

Kamikuza, you just got me thinking... Im looking for a place to go for 6 months.... kitesurf, snowboard, maybe snow kite, not that ive tried it. Japan didnt even occur to me. How long is the season over there? Would you get any wave kiting in july to december?

Im just looking for a spot to spend some time and get a good dose of a different culture etc... a bit of kiting would be good too :)

As I said, Omaezaki for waves, which is near Tokyo. Slightly further north from there for the snow--you'll be close to Nagano which by all accounts is very bloody good. But you'll only get a month or so of snow. July to September will be h-o-t.

You'll get all the culture you can handle

Booze is really cheap in Japan and you can buy it at the convenience store and drink on the street, Chu hi tall cans would be my reccomendation also Japanese convenience stores are great places to hang out when your plastered

Ok looked it up myself, not likely much snow action before mid december. What about wind? Not much info out there from a quick google search, i guess its not a global kiting tourism hotspot :)

Beer is "expensive" but spirits are cheap.

Summer is light. But Omaezaki is the windiest place in Japan, so it's got to be better than here there's plenty of data--if you read Japanese ;)

How about Wedge island??? I may be able to find you a place to stay and it is full of frogs for the culture change.

I haven't been to Omaezaki when the wind was up, but Hamamatsu has better waves than that?! Nice backdrop though!

Ever get out to Shiga?
