Hi guys,
after a long journey and lots of official beer drinking and an impressive opening ceremony with fireworks, chinese army and national anthem on loop for about 2 hours followed by 105db chinese duff duff we started the comp yesterday or at least tried to as the was little to no wind.
42 Racers on raceboards at the startline (including females) which is a big fleet. 14 freestyle ladies and 16 men and a bunch of twintip racers registered as well. Lots of Aussie and Kiwis in the Race Class plus Rach and Torrin doing the freestyle comp.
All morning the conditions were glassy and we waited until 2pm when the wind was supposed to pick up from a cross offshore direction.
A little bit past 2.30pm the wind hit 6-8knts and Jordan and Dave were the first ones to hit the water going upwind which made the race organizers decide to have first race start at 3.40pm.
The race start got a little delayed since the buoys were moving.
Then the first race started but only about 12 guys made it to the upwind mark. Torrin B rounded first followed by the KTA Race leader Jo Pudla from Thailand and Aussie Rick Black aka Rick BRACK (how the locals call him).
Along at upwind marker were Matthew V., Jordan, Marvin, Chris A.. Everybody struggled to make upwind marker as the wind got very patchy and sub 5knts.
The race was called off after about 13 mins and only a handfull guys made it back to the beach and the rest of fleet was drifting in the water for a good 45mins.
The riders were released. skippers meeting 9am today but the forecast is not looking any better than yesterday.
