This morning Tom Tate unveiled the 'Plan B' cruise ship terminal location, 1/2 a nautical mile jetty extending out to sea from Phillip park.

Some Gold Coast kites including myself enjoy doing down winders too or from the spit because there are only 1 or 2 sets of flags over a 6km stretch.

So if the proposal gets up looks like we will be doing a long tack out to sea (which may provide a cool piece of scenery kiting near a cruise ship) or alternately some mad dog may balls up and boost over the thing stir up a media controversy and cause the authorities to have a hissy fit.

Now if it was China, the Cruise-Ship harbour would already be in place.

But it's the Goldie so there's no rush, right ?

The Spit as shown seems to be the only option.

If you can imagine ...

just draw a line between the pier in the foreground,

and the fantasy pier in the background.

There you go, instant harbour.

Id reduce that nasty wind sweep that you get up that way.

I'd like to see them try to park a cruise ship in 4m+ swell and 25kt+ winds

Maybe the boyz could put a proposal in to include a landing pad on the ship,
so you boost high and land onboard... tap your go via tag or use the sign on
sheet before boosting off, but fines could be had if you disobey the rules
and ignore sign on sheet.

Ofcourse there would be restrictions as to boards allowed onboard!

Nothing besides residential high rises has been done on the Gold Coast since the mid nineties. It's not surprising that all the Southerners now go to Bali instead.

I'm just glad it's out of the Broadwater but if it was built now how would it go this weekend ?

25kn S.E with 3.6m swell on a 16 sec wave period it will be breaking over the top of it....

Build it .i need a job .been on the dole since i started kiting 4 yrs ago.10 hours a week will do me fine only on the windless days though.

Sorry mate.. Self interest groups will come up with some unsubstantiated reason why this will damage the environment or cause issues and you'll have go hungry..

They'll build a bigger better version in Indo and they'll get the jobs. You've probably heard this before right?

The idea is a catastrophic, it will be a tragedy and destroy the ocean and northern Gold Coast beaches...hopefully it doesn't go ahead!
