Hi all,

I am contemplating trying to change the Rocker of a nobile split surfboard. It is the 2016 model 5' 9" In length, I want to shorten the front section by 3 inches and then would like to put the Rocker back as it is currently. It is TT construction with a wood core,so I was considering using some sort of heat treatment while Under a weight load.
If anybody has done this successfully previously please give me your tips and any suggestions you might have.

It won't work unless you completely strip back the fibreglass until you get to bar wood and then layup a new lot of glass while pressing the board into the rocker shape that you want.

Youmight as well build a new board from scratch.

Thanks for your response Plummet, what if the wood core doesn't go all the way forward? The board is very thin at the front, would it be possible to bend if only resin/glass no timber.

No. Once the resin is cured the fiberglass is set in place.

Hey Tony,
Hard to modify the rocker but an alternative is to give it a little kicker at the front when you shorten it. This will stop it digging down the face which is probably the main concern. I've done this successfully on an old board that i've shortened nearly 6" off the nose. The board rides the same (actually better, oddly).

I've got the nobile split board as well, hard to do much else with that kind of construction i think.

I shortened a board and took the approx 40mm thick nose down to a normal thickness then re-glassed.
Customer very happy and says it works wonderfully.
Really you only need to worry about sharp changes in nose rocker after that fist say 20-30cm.

It all about blending lines, its possible. Rail reshape comes back further than rocker reshape.

That nose was 40mm ish, down to about 12mm and rounded off.

damn, you did a hell of a job with that one! When I looked at your first photos I thought it would turn out pretty ugly but perhaps effective. Man, your finish blew me away! Nice work.

Yeah thanks Jack, your right the construction is the issue, no thickness or volume to work with.
Very nice bit of work Mark, very Pro looking finish.

Is that Mark Stone @ Stone Surf?

If so he makes really good kite and windsurfers. Designs for Starboard and lives in Geraldton.

He repaired a couple of boards for me recently and really knows the board contruction business. Did a killer job too.

By having different top plates (or holes on a plate), it's absolutely possible to slightly modify the rocker.

This is a TT build construction, not a foam...
