The 2018 Rebel can be 4 or 5 line your choice. Wind range is still great. Its good marketing from North in that if you only have 4 line bar you can go buy a Rebel without spending on a new 5 line bar. The 5th line is not loaded so they fly the same on 4 or 5 lines.

I had the 2018 11m with 22m & 24m 5 line bar fully powered up at Ants FNQ for a week of solid 20-25 knots (WA wind) and it felt rock solid. I just went for big jumps so was always carrying extra kite size, at no point did it feel nervous and felt just like the old Rebel, my previous 11 was a 2013 so not sure if the difference between the 2017 is noticeable.

That's some serious canopy engineering happening then, to get them to feel the same.

Falling sales, I get the reason why.

Might end up a better kite, will only know until it's flown.

There is something special about the 5 line rebel which I doubt they can replicate using 4.
It feels excellent overpowered, like 30+ knots on a 10m is really comfortable.
It steers really well when fully sheeted out.

A 4 line Rebel with a non loaded 5th line option is a Fuse.... so although Fuses ceased to be offered 2 years ago now you can get them again... but their called a Rebel... and you can no longer get a Rebel... but you can get a Fuse with Rebel graphics??!!

Own and fly a 2013 7/9/12 QUIVER, the 9 seems to not have an upper limit, who knows if will be as good as the older 5th loaded system, 30 knts, 9/10 mtr both kites side by side, my money would be on the loaded 5, it may have improved in other regions , easier set up, relaunch etc etc, carnt fault imho the flagging on a 5th

Why not race into your local shop, grab a demo on one and write a review based on how it really performs in your hands. Most North dealers will have a Rebel for demo by now I would say. Ours has been out a couple of times to very positive feedback. My prediction is that the 4-Line Rebel will be very popular as many riders who don't like 5-Lines, but do want the performance that they offer.

I'm with Cauncy, I've not found the upper wind limit on a 9 Rebel. I just don't think it gets that windy

I'm coming to borrow one!

I feel that the main drawback of the 5 line is it takes upto an extra 38 seconds to run the lines out.
When I finish work in winter at 5:30pm, and get to the beach at 5:50pm, every second of daylight counts.

So any news on what will happen to the vegas regarding loaded 5ths? It would be the only kite left using it in norths range. And seems like their bars are all 4 line with optional 5th line now?

and if the rebel is now 4 line where's the evo sit in the line up. Rebel listed as wide arc and evo a delta shape rest seems to be the same

Good to know they haven't messed with it drastically. Nothing beats a 9 vegas.

Makes sense they had to change the evo then. A 4 line rebel and the 2017 evo read as a near identical kite on norths website

hope so, the evo is one sick kite.

Was a late adopter of the Rebel - cos of the 5 lines - have to say as a fan of full power kiting and boosting its very very very good.

Sounds like the EVO is the kite for most people on here.Seeing as everyone is "wannabe wave/downwinders" and can't actually ride waves properly.

Tried the 10m tonight. Feels faster and livelier than the 2017. Definitely more twitchy than the 2017, almost a bit neo-ish the way it generates heavy grunt when you flog it around a bit.

Boost is the reliable old rebel - outrageously good. Was definitely getting around 10 metres off the water, maybe more. Wind was dead onshore so couldn't really flog it off a kicker for a king sh!t air.

Loops pretty well, seems the go round with a bit more of a yank than the 5 line model but that could just be how gusty it was.

Construction good, looks exactly same spec as 2017, apparently the fabric is better though with better reinforcement or something.
