I'm a windsurfer/ windfoiler. I was wounding what size wings you kitefoilers use for light winds.
Windfoiling and kitefoilong are each very different. I would imagine windfoilers use bigger wings since we are carrying the weight of the rig as well as are body and the boards we use are much bigger then a kitefoil board ( 80+cm ? 230ishcm ?130-160 litres) which we need for lift and stability since they are so wide and the foil is a lot father from the nose of the board.
The race front wings for windfoilers pretty much maxes out at 80cm in wing span and are good for light wind. What is the biggest wings you guys have used in light wind. Is it considerably smaller to give less drag?

I used a 76cm wide Slingshot Surf/SUP wing (1536cm2) the other day on my kite and it was great in 10 - 15kts with my 6m kite. The previous weekend my mate had a go on a Nieil Pryde Glide Surf medium and loved it. He'll probably be getting one. I'm pretty sure thats a Windfoil. There are a number of kiters using bigger wings for cruising around in light wind or downwind swell riding. I would say its probably the fastest growing segment in kite foiling at the moment. If there's not already, I'm sure there'll be bigger 2000cm2+ windfoil wings coming out for light wind riding. There must be growing demand from windfoilers for this type of wing?

I was checking out the neil Pryde foils in the shop the other day and they look great, especially for the price. You can put a longer fuselage on them for windsurfing as well.

Yah, I have the Neil pryde 2018 aluminum foil/g10 wings. They dont have a longer fuseledge avaible for my modal yet, but when they do i will buy it. The front wing is 72cm in length. The 2019 versions front wing is only 73cm, but curved wings... maybe that helps a bit for earlier lift.
I am going to try to make a front 80ish cm wing out of some kind of wood and glass it over.
What type of wood have you guys used for wings?

The Moses Windsurf free-ride wing is the 683, Also used for prone surfing and kiting. The Windsurf race wing is a lot higher aspect.
So the 683 is a great way to use across both applications. The stabilizer is also the same for both which is important.

Yes but I think that wing really is too big for enjoyable kiting. Mac Kiteboarding does a review of all the Slingy wings and they really like the 76 for kiters but don't recommend the 84 due to it's size.

No I wouldn't think it would make for a great kite wing was just adding the detail.

I've kited an ~1850cm2 wing, 920cm wide. Too wide for carving around on a short mast, but low wind/small kite beast and super-duper stable. Cruising speed is low (but it wasn't terribly slow over all) but the problem then becomes in a crowded spot, you're cutting hard upwind at walking pace and everyone else is broad reaching much faster :D

I'm kiting and enjoying the Axis 820 wing now, with a 75cm mast.

The problem in light wind is pretty much the kite: if it flies, you can foil but under about 10 knots, the kites you need get exponentially bigger -- as does the odds you can't relaunch and have to swim.

I didn't think they sell ones that big. I don't see any advertising for wings bigger then 85-90cm in windfoiling. Maybe eventually bigger and better wings will come out, seems kitefoiling is a bit farther ahead in this whole foiling thing.
I'm making a 93cm front wing for my windfoil out of laminated ply wood. Still have to hand stand it now and maybe eventually a few layers of fiberglass, was using a belt sander to get it close to the shape I wanted. Wont be narly as fast as production wings but i dont race so dont mind the few knots slower ( maybe Wil be able to pull off a foiling gybe). I also think it will be much lighter then my 72cm g10 wing. I'm glad i didnt go much bigger as stiffness suffers.

We have just got our XXLW Spitfire demo foil and will be setting it up as a Windfoil.
should be slower and carvier than normal windfoil.

Cool rail inn. Those wings on the xxlw look massive. It's hard to tell which is the front and which is the back.

Let us know how it works as a windfoil.

What board will u use it with?

Hi can 17, in my previous comment I was refferrre to the neil Pryde glide surf foil which is different to the windfoilw they make. I believe all the pieces are cross compatible so you may be able to get the large surf wing and use that, in the NP advertisement they do recommend them for light wind wind foiling so it would be worth a look

There's Definitely a 1020 available from Axis, there a photo on the Axis Foils Facebook page.

Wonder how that's be on a windsurfer... I've only ever seen surfboard riders on it.

Is a 90cm mast with XXLW?

Only on special order.
And with very specific 'No jumping ' directive.
Also the 90 is better for use as Windfoil according to Nicolas.
