KIT33R - that is a great compilation - and incredibly humbling ! Ive been pretty stoked to be able to ride a foil natural and goofy and toe side both ways with jibes - but there is just so much more to learn !! How many hours must those guys have put in to get to that level I wonder ?? - but then they arent 57 either LOL . That vid is poetry in motion !!

I don't think I will long enough to learn half of that stuff.

Been watching cool videos from Zeeko since I first started importing for them in 2009.
These foiling ones just get better all the time.
Just a group of friends having fun and some one there to video it.

Those amazing foiling vids always seem to be focused on the rider and board/foil moments and nothing on what they do with the kite - which is half of the equation !! Yes I get it that they are not instructional vids - to get to that level kite control is king - are the Progression Vids the best or are there others ??
Oh - I have ridden/rode a few foils but not enough - but the zeeko foils are nice !! Spitfire XXLW is an awesome and fun foil - good for beginners and surf, my Carver wing/fuselage is faster and fun - foils are just so awesome !!

I have finally nailed carving powered tacks and 360's. It took well over 100 hours of pretty concerted practice. I'm 62 so if I can do it you can too.

There was a lot of time wasted overthinking. Trying this technique and that technique and working out the logic of it all. In the end I committed to slamming them out aggressively and it all came together.

By far the most important thing is the timing of the kite loop. No loop and you're completely screwed. Get the loop wrong and you'll either do a fairly decent attempt, or go for a drag.

As for Zeeko, I think people go more for name brands and stuff they can buy from a shop. Because of the price they want to kick and poke things and talk to guys.

I think Zeeko make perfectly good stuff, but there's not a lot of reason to buy it. Aluminum? Meh. Composite wings? Meh. Spitfire? Interesting but nobody else is doing it.

I am so stoked with the Spitfire. With the xlw wings you can go as slow and carve as well as a surf wing, but when you need pace these wings go at a nice speed. I have ridden a lot of other foil wings now and for carving and waves I am really happy with this strapless Paipo setup.

For what's happening with the kite to enable these sorts of shenanigans check out all the boardriding maui cloudfoiling videos. The first several are on youtube and the later ones on vimeo. Getting comfortable with pinwheel loops (kite turns about its own midpoint), tight loops, and broad sweeping loops in both directions and on both tacks is super useful. Get used to where, when, and in what direction the power increases and decreases and then build up your ability to choose how much you ride towards the kite as the power increases or whether you lean back against it more. These fundamentals combine to let you find balance points on as many angles as possible. I'm not a patch on Greg Drexler or the guys in the zeeko vids but I can do some basic stuff now that I'd have thought impossible for myself a year ago.

Thanks, RAL INN. So, the question to ask is - Are foils getting easier to ride or are people just getting better at riding them or a bit of both?

The large wings do make it easier but I'm thinking at the expense of learning the skills that are needed for those videos.

The new foil made a big difference in the pleasure of riding. The speed rush of death simply stopped happening.

I was already jumping and gybing and having a bash at 360's. I can now have a shot at most of the stuff in the video with varying degrees of success (today was 50:50 ;-/ )

I think the difference is mostly attitude. Simply believing you can try stuff and being willing to have a go (or 1000 goes). I think a lot of people never overcome the initial fear of the foil.

True the learning curve is steep, but once you really start to go for it then things get easier and easier. There is nothing more enjoyable than power blasting on a foil.

Yep - spot on, attitude is everything. I was probably ready to try 360's and tacks 12 months ago but didn't due to lack of confidence. I decided to give it a crack a couple of months ago and started watching tutorials and breaking the moves down into steps. First hour of trying them I got really close and by the end of the session I nailed a360 on the fly. I was stoked and this propelled me from never trying them to doing at least one attempt every couple of runs. If other people can do these moves, you can too.
