what it like for camping Kiting foiling?

For camping I think the only option is the caravan Park in the middle of town ( it's a tiny town, nice place), for foiling there is a giant lagoon with plenty of space, mostly deep but some shallow reef. The waves break on the outside reef approximately 2km from shore.

You will find this situation a lot throughout the area, outer reefs with big lagoons.

August should have some good wind but not honking like it is through the summer months

If you want to go a bit more outback then waroora or Ningaloo station would be better options

we are wicked campervaning up the coast.
Starting in Perth, but wife ( the one with best sense of direction) wants to drop in on Margaret river cause it has nice wine.

As a regular visitor to coral bay, there are 2 caravan/camping grounds in the town, and pretty expensive.
try and steer clear of school holidays in early july and early october as they are booked 14 months in advance .

You can kite but you are heavily restricted where you can kite as there are vessel exclusion area which cover Bills Bay.

I would take foiling gear but you won't really be using it anywhere close to coral bay, as the name suggests there is a lot of coral and it can be sketchy using a twintip especially at low tide. There are deeper spots further north, and further south like Warroora but they don't call it the coral coast for no-reason!!,

And if you are heading off the beaten track you will need a 4wd camper van especially if heading into Warroora, of Ningaloo station.

Hey Tony,

as Toddy said, Coral Bay isn't a great Kite location, even on a twin tip. Forget foiling Coral Bay. Even Mauds landing north of Coral Bay isn't much good for a foil although twin tips can ride there at the shark nursery.

better to drive 20 mins south to the northern entrance to Warroora Station. Beautiful spot but it is wilderness camping. You need to take everything in with you including a chemical toilet. Head town to Sandy Point. The lagoon is deep enough to foil and the coral is deep in most places. You'll see where it isn't. Mostly sandy bottom 2-3 m deep and miles of it in clear water and Sandy launch beaches.

There is a wave out out there too called Grumpys for good reason. It's a great left. Not ideal to Kite but awesome wave to surf.

Been in Exmouth these last few days. Went yesterday down to Coral bay.
Seems plaques on beach ban windsurfing and foiling.
off shore wind and our wicked van restricted to sealed roads made looking for another spot a drag so back to Exmouth and around to Sandy bay. Too shallow for foil but maybe at high tide.

Heading to Monkey Mia in morning.
any thoughts of kite spots

Don't forget to stop by Waroora Station and have a foil at Sandy Point. I promise you, it will be the highlight of your trip, even if only for a day trip.

Don't drive down to Sandy Point. Stop up at the top of the track and just walk down, that way your camper won't get sand in it.

Good call Leighmajor on Coronation beach.
But ballistic rain squalls had me on TT and back to 24m lines on 8m.
maybe less wind blown water turbulence would give better clarity to what is underneath. So as to using the foil with some confidence.
certainly the inner waves just cry out for foiling.
chickened out of staying at Coronation beach. Horizontal rain makes cooking outside less than commensurate with the happy wife happy life ideal.
in Geraldton and Lancelin tomorrow.

I now hate historical towns.
Greenough sucked wife in and by time we got to Lancelin wind was gone.

Yes a bit open and exposed at Coronation for outside cooking.We passed Greenough for Lancelon.
Lancelon in front of the
southern van park was good.
Bit hit and miss this time of year.
We were surprised how cold it was in September October as we got down south .
But we are bit soft up Nth Coast Nsw.

I would be interested to hear if people are foiling at coronation bay.

I have been there with the surfboard and as far as I can tell most of the lagoon would be deep enough. There is a shallow ridge of reef on the first line of breakers which might be too shallow. Once your out past that you would be sweet.

The long spilling slopey waves would be epic for foiling either under a kite or sup or surfboard

Hi mate
It's deep enough at high tide to kite foil in front of the small park out to within say 50mtrs inside of the first reef.Lots of seaweed about.
Sup or surfoil with 60-70cmmast would work.
Tried two years ago with a 90cm but was only learning.
We stayed for a month in September.
plenty of kiting.

From what I noticed. Foiling looks ok for north of the beach access ramp. And out to reef.
the sign says Kiting only allowed north of that point anyway.
in that area the waves ramp but never get to break, so hard to get power on a TT, but on a foil looks sweet.
