This thing just went past on or over the horizon. The two bits stayed together the whole way and it moved fast, so is it the new white tug and whatever being towed? Or a cruise liner with the middle missing over the horizon? Here's one for you Pete, and this is max zoom, why everything is so fuzzy

I think you will find the haziness to be the heat in the air and the heavy humidity level. Of the second type of hazy in the digital, that probably whether you used digital zoom not optical zoom, digital is generally only half as good resolution like filming a movie with with a phone.
Reasonably appears alike two ships although the one one the right has either huge gantry towers or could be a drilling rig being towed.

AZAMARA QUEST

What a tragedy!

It appears the FRONT HAS FALLEN OFF!

It wasn't built to have the front fall off.

Could be wrong. Might just be a big TUG BOAT tugging something.

I agree. It is no doubt the Chicago shoreline.

On the off chance that the world is not flat, I vote for a cruise ship with the middle bit missing due to, what do you call it, yeah, curvature of the earth.

If it was something being towed, imagine what would happen if the ship at the front had to slow or stop suddenly....

Looks to me like one ship.

Atmospheric conditions causing the effect of two pieces.

Now that the front has fallen off we need to think of the possible environmental impact.

We need to tow it outside of the environment.

That's what it looked like to the naked eye, the binocs weren't much better, the camera is a slight improvement, the atmospherics too uncooperative.

There is a similarity, but this would be way out of place here!

Have you tried using a proper optical telescope on the beach?

You will find that the entire ship will come back into view, together with buildings in Madagascar, and usually parts of Brazil.

On the horizon the atmosphere can have an effect of stretching a subject vertically in the right conditions. Could be what's happening here but not much. See it here in warm days a lot.
