Have noticed that Sportsbet has just recently started advertising a cash back bailout when you think your team is done for.

And now I've just seen this research reported on Newscientist.
www.newscientist.com/article/dn27836-winning-formula-reveals-if-your-team-is-too-far-ahead-to-lose/
Coincidence? It appears the geeks employed by Sportsbet haven't been slow in applying the formula.
You may think your team is done for but a statistical analysis of over 1 million fixed duration sporting encounters has a better idea. You lose again. Why do punters believe they are smarter than the professional odd setters?
Well I for one am utterly appalled at the rise of Sportsgamble in the last few years.
You can't watch a footy game without watching an average 50 sportsbet ads, or visit a game without an average 58 ads.
(figures theconversation.com/not-just-a-bit-of-fun-why-sports-gambling-and-kids-are-a-bad-mix-14517)
Footy is supposed to be a family event that you can take your kids to.
Alcohol advertising banned
adult games/movies advertising banned
smoking advertising banned
Why is gambling allowed to absolutely saturate coverage?
5 years ago you could just enjoy the game, for the game. Now they're normalising putting a bet on it, ie you're not really in it for the game but the money you have on it.
The flat out reason is money - Channel 9 & NRL greed is on show and it's pretty appalling.
Particularly come Origin time which is supposed to be a big family event.
Where is the money ultimately coming from? The family budget.
Why are Sportsbet so keen? train up the new generation of little losers so they're ready when they hit 18... ![]()
/rant over, as you were
Totally agree Dave
But I read about 6-12mths ago the sports betting ads were banned (probably voluntary code of practice?) by TV stations and the games' associations etc...?
fun police?
Kids....
gather u would allow advertising smokes on ABC3 then?
fun police?
50 ads with some bogan shouting at full volume. You have a strange idea of "fun".
Show me a role model gambler, most I've known are drop kicks who'd rather give the book keeper money than their kids, my worst paying account holders had a gambling habit, chasing my money was entertaining and their lies knew no bounds, IMHO it's a habit as bad as drugs and alcoholism, this constant bombardment of advertising needs to be quashed
"According to figures last week from the NT Department of Business, turnover now surpasses $5.7 billion a year, on which the bookies leaked just $2.35 million in tax, a rate of 0.05 per cent. Profits were $469.2 million last year, shared among the 12 licensed bookies"
So a cool $39.1 million each earnt from mug punters... they like those odds ![]()
Every person I know who gambles regularly, is paying these jokers and isn't paying for something they have to pay for (food, bills, kids)
