So.....What ya doin' in the shed - that's where quality time is spent.

I'm away from my shed in Brissie at my daughters for a very little while, but still able to do things outside & away.
Like pressure cleaning, build obstacle track for grandsons, make a G & T, do some other sh^t....

I've got two old wooden boats to renovate and I've been successfully dodging the task for almost a year. It's getting hard to run out of excuses. And a tiny house to build, of course.

wives, please remember if you asked hubby to do a job he will do it. Don't keep harping on every six months

Finally starting a Kombucha brew. I love the stuff, but it's even more expensive than beer at the store. Hopefully make up for my super losses, as will my wife finally letting me cut her hair since she's too scared to have a hairdresser hover over her for half an hour at the moment.

Building a sweat shed (sauna)... having trouble getting a sparky to even call me back for the 6kW heater.

The ginger and lemon Kombucha from the bottle is the nicest.

I tried it with the added BPA but it tasted like it had chemicals added to it.

Will be building a light wind board , hopefully foam arrives today before lockdown.

Sure is great having a well stocked shed in times like this.
Have spent the last couple of days out there making a front wheel stand for my motorbike.
I don't particularly need it , but had all the steel in the shed, so in between numerous cups of tea,
and a lot of cutting grinding and welding it's almost done.
A bit more welding to do , and a coat of paint, then time to look for the next project.
Stay safe out there and keep isolated.

OK I've succumbed, here's the main project in my shed at the moment


Angled lines mark the direction of weave, there's another set in red going the other way, that you can't see. This is to help me smooth the cloth out, you need to pull along the line of the weave.
You can see the small patch of carbon/kevlar on the nose. I left it off previous boards to save weight, but ended up regretting that decision.
I've hollowed out under the feet area so I can have thicker foot pads.
I'm making them out of rubber pool tiles.
Probably start painting tomorrow, then I can make a start on Hardy's poor run over Carbon Art.

my shed-time project was supposed to be cleaning up my sheds so I can get stuck into some of the UFP's

hit a speedbump on the way to the project - no 14 days at home for me, if I do cop mandatory isolation, I will most likely be billeted at work for the duration.

Plenty of time to crack a few macadamia ready for beer o'clock.
Only a few thoussnd more to go ??

Good idea Wineman.
The finished project, had all the bits I needed in the shed. Pays to be a hoarder!
Easy to get the bike on this one, easier than my paddock stands, and keeps the bike level and upright for oil checks etc.
Now to find my next project.....

Seperate water shedding bow deck
Then recessed standing deck carbon kevlar bottom layer/PVC core/ top layer
Separate rail carbon kevlar sandwich rails
I can see the single concave bottom with side flats/vee tail and guessing similar sandwich?
Probably little wrong but very impressive.
That's looking pretty labor intensive but light/strong and accurate board.

I saw your thread on mid leash placement and mid point should eliminate any water drag.

It's a huge job alright. Yes each panel is designed for that area of the board. All panels are pvc core,different thickness,with carbon kevlar inside. The standing area is flax. Again different weights. Thats why there is a color difference. The yellow nose area is still just pvc core with light glass inside. Flexible enough for the compound curves in that area. It will get faired and glassed at the end.

Love the ideas and craftsmanship. Impressed , well done.

Again awesome especially compound curves where you gain form stiffness.
Smart laminate using different thickness core and laminate to match area loading.
Question do you do a dry vacuum on PVC then vacuum laminate outside layer so when you laminate inside carbon kevlar layer that glues to the frame?

No I made the panels then cut them and clamped and glued them in place. To be honest most of the panels are too rigid and were difficult to glue in place. That's why the sides ended up being 3 pieces. If I were to do it again I would probably do the sides all like the bow. Just glassed on the inside then fair and glass the outside. The flat areas are ok. Vac bagging the panels really gives you a stronger lighter end product though.

We're going to downsize in the near future, the chances of finding a small block and house, (that the missus approves of) with big shed are low. So solution is to buy a small factory unit or large storage unit. Shift the existing shed over, then put this place on the market.

So found a micro factory unit about 5km away, with a 4.7m high ceiling, floor area is a tad small for all my stuff and work area, so I'm building a mezzanine.
The main beam was heavy and awkward, without another person to help, my lovely wife suggested hanging one end of the beam from my big trestle. This worked well.



I've now got the end post and 5 joists nailed in place. Tomorrow I'll start the stairwell and get the rest of the joists in.

Overhead cupboards are a win win .
With those tall walls you could have a bank of three high over head cupboards . All at the space cost of a mini ladder .
Thats What I'll do when I run out of floor space . Wonder Woman will have to move .
Bunnings have wall cupboards a metre wide for $70. Can't buy materials for that .
ps : that looks like a shaping bay size room there .
