I think I have to be the youngest Nirvana Fan. I haven't met to many other fans. If so what is your favourite nirvana song? Album? Did you go to any of the old concerts.
My favourite songs are probably "Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit, lithium, about a girl, drain you, Lounge act, serve the servents, heart shaped box, stay away, love buzz, all apologies and others in no particular order
i love nearly all their songs. Unfortunately I was born 4 years after Kurt died.
Regards,
Mick
A mate had bleed (i think) before smells likenteen spirit came out and we were fans. . Special order (tape) from states. I lived it man! Lol!. I jad smellsn ike teen spiriti on cd. But at the end of the day they had a limited catalpgue. Mudhoney (ah3s got it), soundgarden, swervedriver, janes addiction less to of soni c youth. But thr undisputed kings and will spoil u for any band . _ Pixies. Even now
Pixies are, were and always will be terrible
That's a massive kick in my nuts Doc.
Jeez that hurts.
Congrats on having some taste, now if I could only get my daughter to broaden her musical horizons!
Was lucky enough to see them at the Phoenecian Club in Sydney, just prior the the 1992 BDO. Was an incredible show. I think most people there realised how lucky we were because Nirvana literally exploded off the back of that tour and there was such excitement in the air while queuing up along George St to get in.
Also lucky enough to see Pavement at the Phoenician club too, in 1993 if my fading memory recalls correctly

That's fantastic mate. Shame the Aussie shows weren't recorded. I love listening to old paramount and reading shows. I have been to a few Foo Fighters shows. Not the same energy as Nirvana though.
Cant stand music these days. Just false. I have half taught myself to play guitar just because of them. I find I a bit of a shame that the other songs where overshadowed from Smells like teen spirit. Some hidden gems on Nevermind and In Utero for that matter.
Thanks for your response,
Regards,
Mick
Check out the J files

and hope they do a live at the wireless replay of the BDO.

Cool I was at the same concert. Salt and sun bleached surfie long hair and probably a sketchy flanno shirt and rabid black jeans to go with the flow.
I remember house sitting for a weekend with the lads just the week when Nevermind was released and it hit us like a tonne of bricks. We'd been into Bleached etc but they were no where as powerful as Nevermind. One of the great rock albums of all time. More than one hi-fi/speaker system was trashed around this time. I'm sure the neighbours hated us all.
RHCP's Blood Sugar Sex Magic and Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger were also huge around the same time. I seem to recall (which is amazing considering the mind altering going on at the time) that a triple album purchase in the same week because the release dates coincided almost to the day.
All three of these albums made these bands and are still I think, their respective best.
Also check out the Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and Pearl Jam's Ten, VS. and Vitalogy and Jane's Addiction's Ritual de lo Habitual.
For some local talent check out my local band (then) RatCat. Good fellas.
Pixies are, were and always will be terrible
You must be mad! Awesome band.
nirvana song? Territorial Pissings still gets me wanting to mosh like a maniac (my back and neck say "Sit down old man and tap that forefinger ferociously.")
i paid twice the face value to a scalper for a ticket to their Perth gig. They cancelled and I got 22 of my $50 back.
When I am arguing with my 12 year old son about the merits of Metallica (he likes them, I reckon they are gutless wannabes when compared to the power of Badmotorfinger and Psalm69) it says a lot about contemporary music. He can't find anything modern he likes as much as the Black album.
Yeah the Pixies rock. I had a similar thing with my Bro about Metallica. I mean they were good and I liked them, but they just didn't "swing" like Soundgarden or Nirvana or even Guns 'n' Roses did. Far too bloody serious for me.
Check this out.

Is that the one where they were support for the Violent Femmes?
We were all set to go and try to sneak in when we heard it was cancelled....

Hi Shanty.
Not surprised you're getting into this stuff because today's music is lacking a bit of originality. At your age, I was getting into Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and James Brown.
Some great singer songwriters today for sure and I buy new music every week, including home grown, but, just not in the same league mostly.
In addition to my above recommendations, and this is not grunge by any stretch, more good rock but well worth checking out if you like rhythm and great southern US backing vocals. Try Black Crowes' Shake Your money Maker and Southern Harmony & Musical Companion.
Saw them at the Hordern Pavilion in the nineties (now demolished). I've never seen so many joints being passed around, I lost tracks of who's was who's. Maybe demolishing it was the only way to clean up the dope roaches.
Now you'd get arrested just for lighting a match.
Seeing Things and Sister Luck also great songs with amazing vocals.
And if you like guitar, start with a master....
So many people think Nevermind was he first album but it wasn't The previous album was good, and some recorded in the garage stuff brilliant. 30 years last month.....
I like Laylaspirit for an interesting change.....

^^^^"his" first album, comer, but it wasn't full stop. Thank me later for the spelling and punctuation help.
Just helping u Markie, like you always help me if I spell or miss punctuate anything.
Saw them on the Gold Coast at Fisho's , when they were the "support" band for Violent Femmes???.WTF.No one was there for the Femm's.
I was waaaaay under aged to be there, still in school, but, was the best mosh pit I have ever been in. Historical event I was privileged to be part of.
When Nirvana finished their "support" , half the crowd left before the Femm's started, lol. Polly rocked
Aleluja! - I thought I was the only one. I've got "Ejector Seat Reservation" on vinyl. Underated band - they've got some cracking tracks.I had "Nevermind" on cassette, when it came out, a muso mate of mine was telling me Smells Like Teen Spirit was crap, and this grunge thing would never take off.
He's a concreter now
If you want 'alternative'... and if your ears can handle Lo-Fi - try get through some "Guided By Voices" albums - the pre-2000 stuff there's nothing like a good old analogue 4 track recording.
You may as well add "The Jesus Lizard" to your play list too.

Indeed, there are hidden gems In "Bleach" as well. Love "About a girl" "Love Buzz" (cover) "School"
Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain said that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was an attempt to write a song in the style of the Pixies, a band he greatly admired: I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies.
Anything dave grohl went on to do total rubbish.
I came across black sabbath having.never heard them before. Really quite good. Ozzy can sing!
Also have u seen the dirt on netflix? Good

Anyone with half a brain would realise my typo error was that I missed the " T " in "the". THE first album.
Its spelled "comma" not comer.
By having a crack, as always in pure desperation to have a go at anything Mark says, you've just made yourself look dumb.
Sorry to anyone who was so concerned that by keyboard is dodgy. Or maybe it was only loto who cared....

MY keyboard, not BY keyboard.
Floyd the barber was my favourite song, spent too many months of my life learning the bass notes for most of the songs off Bleach, if only utube was around then would have saved some time and probably not missed so many meals, when I just needed six more hours to learn a particular section.

Are you a bass player blue moon? If only I was born 20 years earlier .

I used to own a bass and a massive speaker the size of a medium-sized fridge, but I wouldn't say I was a bass player, no.
my mate was a drummer and he put an ad in Drum Media, we jammed with half a dozen guitarists but I always eventually got thrown out of the bands, either from not liking the type of music, or generally just being an untalented hack.

Well at least you tried mate. When I say I half tough myself to play guitar. What I really mean is I tough myself to make noise. It was hardly good to say the least.
regards,
Mick

Fixed it for you
For some local talent check out my local band (then) RatCat. Good fellas.
There was a time around 1990 when Ratcat had either one or two No. 1 singles, and there was also a fuss about Armando Hurley singing the Decore ad on TV. The irony is that despite being cult idols in their way, they both still had to work day jobs and Armando's was to deliver sandwiches to the publisher where Simon Day (Ratcat's lead singer, for those who don't recall) was working as an art director. It was a bit of a commentary on the way the music industry works!
