hi SB brains trust. Just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with trackers? I have a vintage vehicle that has significant sentimental value and it was recently stolen from my mechanics in Perth. The car was running and the mech walked about 10 steps to get a timing light and in that time some low life dog carnt jumped into it and sped off. It had a GPS fitted but I only learned after this event that it ran off the 2g network which was shut down in April.
Luckily the vehicle was recovered relatively unscathed with no apparent damage about 8 hrs later. So, I'm now in the market for a top of the range GPS for it that I can track in real time. Currently looking at black knight or fleet tracker. Let me know if there are others I should consider. Thanks all

This one looks like it functions similar to the one I already have that works off 2g. When it was working, you call it and it texts u back it's co ordinates.

There's a big thread about this one on Performance Forums. Plenty of people seem pretty happy. I think the bloke who did the group buy runs a VIP uber type service in Perth.

Cheap option might be to hide a old iPhone or smart phone in it. On a power supply
and run an app like find my friends price of the phone and a cheap prepaid sim

Other wise expensive

The expense of having a decent tracker is well worthwhile for a car like this. I wouldn't risk using the iphone method as there are too many variables that can go wrong. ie phone craps itself, charge cable, you forget to top up the sim card etc. I use the Black Knight system in my caravan which gets rented out and it works a treat. Money well spent. P.S. your car is an absolute weapon. That must have been a horrible 8 hrs, Any chance you could post up a few more pics

i agree that an old phone is a cheap option, but I'm not interested in a cheap option, I want something I can rely on to take me to the dogs when I need to hunt one.

A mate had a GTHO, had all the hidden kill switches etc, but his best trick was to leave less fuel than what you find on an oily rag in the tank, if it was ever pinched it would be easy to find as the thief would have to push it to a servo.

On the link I posted they claim the main culprits (for boats at least) are dishonest tow truck drivers!

I use BlackKnight, can set up a geofence with alerts if needed. Heaps of other options also.

I have boattracker.com.au does not lookmas user friendly as the black knight but has no subsciption fee just pay for the unit and set it up with prepaid sim i am happy enough with how it works.
Also in my opinion you are better off with telstra as the coverage is better.

Very lucky man to find the car back.

This made me seriously think in fitting the same finding capabilities to my old tin too.

Just a side note for those looking to have GPS tracking installed.
Should you go the contract type programs, there are some real nasty little clauses hidden inside some of these contracts.
One of the worst is should you "not" notify the supplier within six months prior to the contract term finalizing that you wish to terminate your contract, it automatically rolls over for a further period. Mostly another 12 mounts subscription. These are auto deduction type subscriptions from your bank.
So please read the fine print

We have a couple of "tic toc tracker" watches at work,

Depending on the plan you subscribe to, these watches [intended to be worn by kids] send a signal every 5 minutes so parents can find them.

No idea what they cost to buy or run / several different plans available, but ours cost about $15 a month.

One of these stashed in your car would make it very easy to find.

App loads onto your laptop or i-thingy and away you go.
