Hi all.

Hope this is the correct place to start this thread.

I am very intrigued to know if people who do water sports in general want a way to track what lakes, rivers, etc that they have visited and keep a record of everywhere they have been. This would include such activites as, kayacking, canoying, kitesurfing, wake-boarding, water skiing, wind surfing, SUPing, and more. Just like running or biking the tech would map out the path people took through a lake or river. Furthermore, wouldn't it be cool to have some hardware to track your heart rate, distance, speed, wave pattern, stroke count, and much more??

I need some feedback for some market research, and I am hoping that I came to the right place!! Let me know your thoughts!

Cheers everyone!

We already use GPS and they do more than enough for what is needed.

Maybe a heart rate monitor for when you fall in and see a shark could be a good addition, but I am not sure if you would get repeat business.

Check out the various GPS windsurfing and kiting sites. You will see there are many people out there doing what you are looking for. The GPS windsurfing section of this forum is probably not a bad place to start.

We're pretty cynical about 1st post pimps round here, and the clever ones start with a question. The more background you post about yourself and what angle you're coming from, the more people will be inclined to help.

Rupa. There was a French guy who created a Windsurfing/Kitesurfing tracking web page a few years ago, I don't remember the name of the site, but I remember his name: Pascal Freys. His web site was a database that recorded where people sailed, what gear they used and how good is was. Unfortunately his page was busted (an Alpha version if that), and the author was very arrogant about bug reports, so I quickly lost interest in his site when I wasn't able to log my reports. However, it was an excellent concept. Pity it wasn't tested before he announced it.

Hey. That's actually really interesting to know. I am not just thinking about windsurfing and kite urfing though. I have always loved surfing, but that sport is hard to do in Canada LOL, so recently i tried Stand-up paddle boarding because i thought it was a good activity for me and my girlfriend to do. We both really loved it, so I thought to myself, well wouldn't it be cool if we did this all over the place and could keep records of where we have been, how good the ride was and it would be really interesting to know how many strokes i took each time. Since this sport is new, I thought maybe something needs to be made for these guys. And then i thought i could apply it to other water sports. This is where I was coming from so I just wanted to get some comments from people who have been doing water sports for many years.

So I appreciate the input.

I was watching the Padang Cup
Rip Cirl was advertising a watch that captures all the data that you can download when home.
It showed distance, wave count and tracked direction taken. Not sure what other features it had

Its due out in Sept.

I like gadgets and am first on the list at the Ripcurl store for when they arrive. The best part is the function to store over 1000 waves word wide with tides and best conditions to surf. With the GPS if you go to a new area, (like i will be in Hawaii in Oct) i can turn it on and it will instantly update for the area I'm in.

$500 bucks though, but as said it also stores waves and details on your I phone, and i did say I'm a sucker for gadgets
