Despite having all the necessary paper work to sell it and offering it at $1,500 nobody wanted to touch it because of Qld rego, and that included dealers who didn't want it for any price.

What does one have to do to get a vehicle from interstate registered in W.A.???????

I thought it was a fairly simple process over there.

I think if you are a new resident of WA, getting it registered there is easy, as long as you have owned it for a while. I think this even skips inspections.

Unfortunately outside of this situation, I think the alternative is that you would have to have an inspection to get it registered which sounds like it is too much hassle for people, especially as they don't normally need to do this for yearly rego.

Assuming it is still registered that you could sell it to some backpackers that intend to head east. I think travelers like WA registered cars because they can have the rego renewed remotely over the internet.

When does the rego run out?

At the end of the day, it is a 1999 model, so your market is somewhat limited anyway.

As Zuke says here in the West it will have to be inspected could cost $110.00 upwards and you may have to book it in. you will have to have any faults repaired before it will be regoed then sell it or drop the price right down and try to sell it on gumtree aiming at the back packers

Thanks fellas. They were hoping to sell it to backpackers heading east. The rego in Qld can be renewed in Qld online too as long as you can quote the rego number and a CRN (customer reference number which is usually a driver licence number).

Looking on Gumtree in Perth there are plenty of them for sale.

It looks like it is going to be a financial write off which is a shame because I know the car and it is a damned good one that has a good service history.

If someone wanted a trip east my mate would probably pay $500 for it when it gets here.

Because the car has Qld rego the seller has to hand in the plates before the new owner takes possession (if sold in WA). The car would then have to go over the pits and be re-registered. Anyone looking to buy a cheap car in WA always looks for WA rego as you can transfer the registration into your name without the car going over the pits. I'm pretty sure anyone who buys the car would be no better off if they drive it straight back to Qld as they would also need to get the car inspected there.

Bring that GEEE whip to newcastle and Ill give you 1000 cash straight up. Those things are bullet proof paddock bashers yeeeahawww!

A registered garage inspects the car for roadwothy, no oil leeks brakes tyres exhaust, nothing too major
The if ok you do the relevant papers at license office, pay fee, hand in plates, get wa ones, then wait for paperwork
You'll sell it in a heartbeat to backpackers

Good luck finding someone willing take on the hassles of transferring the license from interstate, it's just too hard for most given the circumstances.

Even trying to sell the car in WA and do a dodgy with the transfer and make Qld Transport think it's still in Qld is tricky given they still require paper forms.

If you decide to sell it for cash just to get rid of it make sure you take the plates off and return them to Transport to 'delicense the vehicle' and get a receipt. The last thing you want is your local meth-head going off and racking up fuel drive-offs and armed robberies in a car still registered to your mate.

The backpackers know all the tricks with buying and selling cars in Australia and the various states have made it easy for them with online payment of rego.

The backpacker traveller cars get bought and sold a dozen times over without the official ownership changing until the vehicle finally gives up the ghost and is dumped on the side of the road or left in an airport carpark. The cops let them get away with it because it is too complicated and expensive to chase them up.

The losers in this game are us when there is an accident. If there is an injury or death it becomes an insurance nightmare.

When a vehicle is sold in Qld with registration, an inspection and roadworthy certificate is required in order to transfer the registration. Sounds like it is similar but not quite the same in W.A.

If it is a new registration in W.A., an inspection and certificate is required but not on sale of a vehicle with existing W.A. registration. Is that the way it is????

The vehicle, once it crosses the border into WA and is no longer in the possession of the registered QLD owner is now considered as an unlicensed vehicle.
To move it you are required to purchase a temporary movement permit .
Also the inspection cost is $95.10 which gives you a full examination at an Authorised Inspection station.
If it passes the inspection, you will be given a certificate which is valid to present to Transport WA office for a period of up to 3 months.
The new owner will have to provide proof of ownership and proof of their identity.
The old plates are to be surrounded to get a permit if you purchase it from transport office.

If you are pulled over by police without a movement permit they can issue a $600 fine !

Leave it in Balga for a night.

I thought it was even weirder than that in that if a WA resident buys a car in another state, and then drives it into WA, while its in their name, the other state's rego is void, and its now unregistered. I probably have that wrong, but I thought I read that somewhere.

Best way I reckon is get a 1 liter peach tea and find an empty bottle of Jack Daniels. Go to your unused medication drawn (even if is pet medication) Pour the peach tea into the jack Daniels bottle and the add as many random pills of your choice. Leave that on the back seat. ;-) ( just cover your ass and leave a label near your boot saying poision ! ahahaha

My mate made a contact in Perth who has picked the car up. I don't think it would have lasted much longer.

Fords post 1999 became just about "drive away theft proof" I believe and with the value of cars after they are 10 or more years old they become more trouble than they are worth to steal except for joy riders I believe.

You are just a little bit late, both in your reply and your understanding of 'Fords'

I have a friend that likes to claim that you see so many Fords or Holdens on the side of the road broken down, and never VWs. He never seems to get it that its because there are so many Fords and Holdens running around that are 10 or 20 years old and like any car they suffer from wearing out. It doesn't hurt that the people that get a 3rd or 4th hand car are not always up to scratch on maintenance.

How many 20 year old VWs do you see on the street? Not many. How many 20 year old Commodores do you see on the street? A lot more than the VWs.

I guess a bog standard 195kw Falcon is pretty outdated. Even if you go to the 270kw one, its just 'outdated engineering'

It's the fact that an late 80s Falcon had the same window winders as an early 70s. LOL.

Hell, I was raised in a Ford family and owned a few before i realised they are 20 years (at least) behind Jap/Korean etc etc cars.

If you want to talk about "out dated" you have to say that all cars are outdated. That form of transport is choking the world.

Most cars move around with only one person on board so you have a tonne or so of machinery with 100 hp or so moving around 100 kg or so of human.
