Hi guys,

While derigging my Severne Reflex sail the fast way by releasing the downhaul and letting the cambers jump off, one of the cambers (nr. 3) got stuck for some reason. It seems that the batten (or batten extension) that goes into the camber inducer in the luff sleeve is too loose now and the camber of course does not hold.

I don't know what exactly is broken and if it can be changed at all. Help anyone?

I'd reckon the end has snapped off the batten. A savage way to de-rig!!

Couple of second hand ones I've repaired have had this problem.
Severn 6.6m2 in 15-18knots = mid to high 80's kmh

Chooks on the money. Sounds like the tip extension the camber inducer slides onto has busted. It's repairable but it's more of a job for a sail repairer, as opposed to a diy as it's all stitched in (cue more experienced sailors saying it's easy to fix diy )

not sure what state you're in, but I'm sure there'll be a sail repairer nearby if you're in a capital city.

i see you're new here. Interesting fact: we windsurferers have our very own list of forums, completely to do with windsurfing. Hopefully one one of the mods will move your post to a more relevant forum before you get too many "pro tips" from our unfortunate brethren.

You are on the money about the damage and it is a job for a sail repairer. Shame because it is Cyril's ex PWA slalom sail but it has done more than it's fair share of sailing (150+ sessions) so it's probably time to get the new Mach1 .

The reason I'm new to this forum is that I windsurf on the other side of the planet, but I read the posts here with interest and amusement.

I have repaired a few broken batten tips, I just cut a little slit in the batten pocket just behind the broken bit to get some long nose pliers in there and pull it out. Just patch the cut with a bit of gaffa tape or something, it wont rip any further or let the new/repaired batten fall out. Just looks a bit ugly.
