The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron's summer season of 2009-2010 ended today with the running the prestigious Varuna Trophy, an event in which the top placed boats in each division and one-design class race again each other under performance handicaps.

Despite a warm and sunny autumn day, a rather disappointing fleet of 10 boats took part. However, they did represent all divisions and classes racing with the Squadron.

Racing began in less than 5 knots and while it did freshen during the afternoon, the Harbour was full of windless 'holes'.

Victory went to Division 3 competitor Kulu Gila, skippered by John Anstey, giving the boat an end-of-season hat-trick as she won the final two races of the Main Series in her division.

Line honours went to Charles Curran's 60-footer Sydney but she placed ninth on handicap.. Kula Gila won on corrected time from the International Yngling Troika (Ruth McCance and Federico Lauro and Division 4 boat Therapy (Tom Cehak). Fourth place went to the Inernational Etchells Alchemist (Richard Hammond and Roger Gain).
