Strong winds have kept the majority of fleets on shore at round three of the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Spain with the Australian Women's Match Racing Team the only Australian crews to race on day three.
With winds gusting up to 30 knots and rough conditions the crews spent the morning on shore before the Women's Match Racing competition was able to start the second round of competition late in the day.
The two Australian Women's Match Racing Team crews were in action with Katie Spithill, Olivia Price and Rayshele Martin competing in the Gold round robin while Nicky Souter, Nina Curtis and Jessica Eastwell were competing to join them from the repechage round robin.
Both crews completed three races with Spithill finishing the day with one win and two losses. Spithill claimed victory against Lotte Meldgaard from Denmark and had losses against American Sally Barkow and Dutch sailor Renee Groeneveld.
In the repechage round robin Souter and crew are currently tied for second position behind Danish sailor Dorte Jensen after two wins and a loss. Souters only loss of the day was against Jensen while she had victories against Silke Hahlbrock of Germany and Anna Kjellberg of Sweden.
Both crews will be back in action on day four to complete the current round and decide the quarter-finalists.
The Australian Sailing Team 470 men's crew of Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page were kept off the water for the day so remain in fifth position after the opening four races of the regatta.
'It would have been nice to go sailing today and stretch out the legs,' said Belcher. 'The Miami regatta and the opening two days here in Palma have been quite light so it would have been a good change to do some racing in heavier conditions.'
'With tomorrow expected to be back under 10 knots I guess we'll have to wait until the next round in France for some stronger winds,' he said.
The Australian Sailing Development Squad crew of Sam Kivell and Will Ryan remain in 54th position in the men's 470 fleet while fellow Australians Paul McKenzie and Phil Toth are 20th in the Star class.
