Sydney Hobart. Mike Slade's ICAP Leopard crossed the finish line at 5.45am this morning. Slade was his usual positive self as the boat docked in Hobart.
'We took a big gamble and got really punished for it' he said with his characteristic laugh, referring to his 'round the outside' move yesterday afternoon. 'But you've got to try these things' he added resignedly.
Slade described large seas off Tasman Island last night, with the forecast soft winds in Storm Bay not eventuating.
Investec Loyal crossed the finish line at about 7.30 this morning but is still in the river, with reported problems in lowering the mainsail.
It's another beautiful day in Hobart with a strong nor'wester of 20 knots in the river already.
Next boat due is Niklas Zennstrom's Ran, which has just entered the River Derwent.
