Spinnaker Tales - from multihulls to Grand Prix

'Stallion Cat'
Perfectionist multihull yacht builder David Biggar has turned his skill to building his first Grand Prix IRC class racing yacht.

There is little doubt about his personal ability to build a high performance hull with his Stallion Marine built cruising catamarans moulded into an art form of excellence at his Yandina boatshed already regarded among the best in the country.

He recently received a contract from a German client who has requested a high tech Stallion Catamaran which when completed in early 2010 will no doubt attract future orders from European enthusiasts who have an interest on cruising the 'fast lane' in safety and comfort.

The principal reason behind this reputation is his dedication to achieve the best possible results for his clients.
David Biggar who was introduced to dinghy racing on the land locked Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club courses has progressively identified his Sunshine Coast based company as a highly respected brand name in the very competitive boat building industry.

However his real love is ocean racing as a member of the Peter Harburg owned Black Jack blue water sailing team.

He remains presently focused at work building the John Reichel and Jim Pugh designed 42 state of the art ocean racer due for launching in December and committed to contest her first serious test in the Pittwater/Coffs Harbour series followed by The Southport Yacht Club hosted Sail To Paradise regatta off the Gold Coast under the now famed Black Jack Racing Team 'Battle flag' in early January.

The prototype RP 42 will have a unique hydraulic sail control stem set up at the helm allowing her to be sailed by either a single person or limited crew but there is also the option for the sloop to be fully compliant to race under the strict IRC rating rule.

'This is a very exciting yacht and is very competitively priced with the hull and Southern Spars carbon rig valued at $550,000 AUD. while the sails and electronics are extra'. Dave Biggar said.

He has already been contracted to build a second RP42 for a top ranking New South Wales yachtsman who has plans to contest the 2010 Audi Australian IRC championship against the defending champion Rod Jones and his Mooloolaba Yacht Club crew.

Meanwhile Dave Biggar and his Stallion Marine boat building team are preparing for a busy building program over the next 12 months as interest in the exciting and affordable RP 42 IRC sloop gains momentum.

Negotiations are already underway for hulls three and four while interest will remain on the performance of the Baby Black Jack when owner Peter Harburg and skipper Mark Bradford tests her handicap rated speed during the important regattas in January.
