This morning Lu Lu Belle's mascot Wilson, the American volleyball with the painted on face reminiscent of Tom Hanks' silent companion in the movie Castaway, was sitting on a glass of water at the breakfast table nursing a hangover following his latest abduction. But it seems there might be a flipside to last night's devilish kidnapping at Sail Port Stephens.
The two "wenches" from Antipodes who made off with Wilson at the Commodore's Cup prizegiving and then proceeded to ply him with liquor might be about to make amends for their misdemeanours.
They have hinted that a 'friend' could be coming to tonight's prizegiving to meet Wilson. A blind date of sorts.
"He's so puffed up he's almost a basketball," said skipper and mate Peter Lewis. Actually, he's so desperate, there could be wedding bells by the end of the regatta. Let's hope she has an all-round character, like Wilson. He is a little worried about the conversation, given he hasn't got any ears, plus he's American so there could be a language barrier."
Prior to hopping aboard Lu Lu Belle for the final Commodore's Cup race today, Wilson was spotted trackside. Immediately following the daily briefing all skippers lined up for a spot of yabby racing outside the regatta office.
"Wilson understands how the yabbies feel..he's been used for fun and sport in the past," says Lewis.
So after a long day on the water - with an hour and half postponement before the fleet finally got away at 2pm and still no finishers in sight at 4pm this afternoon - will Wilson find love tonight? Stay tuned.
