'Southport Yacht Club will host the new 'Sail Paradise' series off the Gold Coast' Southport Yacht Club &copy

Southport Yacht Club on the Gold Coast is expecting a significant fleet of IRC racing yachts, cruising yachts, sport boats and multihulls for its inaugural Yalumba Sail Paradise series which will be staged from January 10-14, 2010.

This event will have as a curtain-raiser another inaugural contest, the Coffs to Paradise offshore race from Coffs Harbour to the Gold Coast starting January 7.

Already some of the better yachts on Australia's east coast, including Peter Harburg's Black Jack, Bob Robertson's Cracklin' Rosie, Bruce Absolon's Spirit of the Maid and Matt Percy's Alacrity will be competing for top honours in the IRC Division. Additionally, Sail Paradise will host the Melges 24 class Australian Championship.

Added appeal comes to Sail Paradise by way of it finishing just two days before the highly popular Surf to City race from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, which starts on January 16.

The Coffs to Paradise and Yalumba Sail Paradise events have solid sponsorship support from Yalumba Wines, Fujitsu, XXXX, OAMPS, Gold Coast City Council and Gold Coast Tourism.

The Notice of Race for both events can be viewed at www.southportyachtclub.com.au .
