The Over the Moon Australian Spiral Championships kicked off yesterday on Lake Burley Griffin from the Canberra Yacht Club with a fleet of 65.

Murray Gordon defending champion will be wearing the Open leader vest today after having an flawless session in the gusty 10 to 25 knot northwester, with a 1, 1, 3.

Racing was tight with many taking turns and tips in the tricky Canberra breeze. With a few DSQ's for missing the distance marker at the top mark, and some also thinking the first heat was an invitation race it will be interesting to see what happens once the drops come into play.
