'NSW Secondary School Teams Racing Championship'

|
The NSW Secondary School Teams Racing Championship is the pinnacle event for many schools within NSW.
Organised by Yachting New South Wales and hosted by Woollahra Sailing Club at Rose Bay, the event is an annual regatta based over three days. Dates have been selected by the Schools so the Championship fits into the School program. It has been determined that Week 2, Term 2 is the best time. The 2010 event will run from the seventh - 9th May 2010
The event is an annual regatta and has been running since its inception back in 1985. Past regattas have only been open to State Secondary Schools within New South Wales, to a maximum of ten teams. The 2010 event will include Schools from interstate with preference of entry going to the NSW schools.
Team Racing is very popular within the school system, as it is a Team sport, it involves many tactics and the more experienced sailors can teach the less experiences as they sail together not against each other.
The Pacer is the boat of choice. The Pacer is a two-handed dinghy which can be sailed by all sailors either beginner or advanced. It allows more participation as it is an easier type of boat to sail, but the added team component brings many tactical decisions into play which makes the racing more difficult.
The two Teams (Schools) consisting of three boats per side face off against each other in an attempt to achieve a winning number of places and points. The School with the lowest points wins the race. E.g. School A with Place getters 1, 2, 4 = 7 points beats School B with Place getters 3, 5, 6 = 14 points.
The NSW Championship is also part of the selection criteria to represent the State at the 2010 Australian Schools Team Racing Championship.
The Notice of Race is now available and can be found on the Yachting NSW website.
