Launceston yachtsman Ken Gourlay's record as Australia's fastest solo, non-stop and unassisted circumnavigation will stand for a while longer as teenager Jessica Watson approaches the finish of her epic voyage, writes Julian Burges in the Launceston 'Examiner'. In a voyage that received little publicity outside of a Tasmania, Gourlay completed the fastest circumnavigation by an Australian off Mersey Bluff, Devonport, on 5 May, 2007. At 51, he became Australia's oldest solo circumnavigator and the only Tasmanian yachtsman to achieve the feat, titles that he still holds.
