'Offshore Racing Panelists at NYC'

The Lake Ontario 300 Committee rolled it's "road show" into a packed house at National Yacht Club in Toronto last night to receive a very warm reception. A show of about 10 hands at the beginning of the night indicated that there were some veteran Lake Ontario 300 racers in the crowd and by the end of the evening half of the audience raised their hands when asked if they were planning to race this year. The race has grown steadily over the past few years with a record 172 boats participating in last year's race.
The evening's presentation was an overview of the race with emphasis on planning, crew work, communications, tactics and most importantly safety. Augmenting the evening's information about the Lake Ontario 300 and offshore racing in general were additional presentations by Geoff Moore from North Sails Toronto on sail selection; Colin Clarke from Gill North America on the latest in clothing yourself for an offshore race and Lori Mason from The Store on new safety equipment with a live demonstration of an inflatable PFD.

Also presenting were double handed sailor Ian McAllister on LOSHRS and Gary Brenner on the challenges of single-handed sailing and racing.
